Position Summary and Scope of Service:
Jordan’s Principle is a child first and needs based principle that applies equally to all First Nations children residing on and off reserve. It ensures there is no denial or delay for First Nations Children in receiving essential public services that are available to all other children.
St.Amant embraces the goal of Jordan’s Principle to ensure that all children with disabilities have access to the health and social services they need in their community. We are currently recruiting a Music Therapist to support this initiative.
The Music Therapist provides services in accordance with the Mission and Values of St.Amant, policies and procedures of Clinical Services and all relevant professional standards of practice. The Music Therapist is familiar with and promotes a “customer service focus” in the provision of services to clients, staff and other professional relationships.
As an active team member in Clinical Services, the Music Therapist participates in Quality Improvement (QI) activities, including the development, modification and implementation of service and program goals, objectives, policies, procedures and standards. The Music Therapist uses service evaluation feedback to purposefully and continually strengthen services. The Music Therapist actively supports all program initiatives designed to strengthen services and program integrity.
Qualifications:
Educational:
- Must possess a Bachelor of Music Therapy or Creative Arts Therapy (specialization in Music Therapy) from an accredited university.
- Additional related specializations is an asset.
Professional:
- Certified Music Therapist (MTA) with the Canadian Association of Music Therapists (CAMT) and/or Music Therapist- Board Certified (MT-BC) with the American Music Therapy Association (AMTA) in good standing.
- Member of the Music Therapy Association of Manitoba is an asset.
- Experience providing music therapy services within an interdisciplinary setting is an asset.
- A minimum of 2 years’ experience providing music therapy services to children, adolescents, and adults with developmental disabilities, complex care needs, Acquired Brain Injuries, and Autism Spectrum Disorder is an asset.
Clinical:
- Must demonstrate proficiency in at least voice, guitar, percussion and piano skills.
- Comprehensive and current knowledge of best practice of music therapy as it relates to service development and implementation.
- Knowledge of child, adolescent, and adult development, and the dynamics of relationships.
- Ability to case manage and define a service plan with individuals and caregivers.
- Able to effectively prioritize, structure and manage scheduling caseload(s) to achieve targeted outcomes.
- Strong ability to implement music therapy interventions in a variety of settings including groups (small and large), individual, and dyad (2-person) formations and to document their benefits and outcomes.
- Ability to document plans and interventions accurately and in a timely manner, using standardized program protocols and formats.
- Demonstrates ability to adhere to a clinical process involving assessment, treatment planning, objective tracking, and treatment completion.
- Ability to form appropriate professional/trust relationships with clients.
- Demonstrates counseling skills as they relate to crisis, transition, and personal development within the context of music therapy.
- Ability to identify high risk situations and respond appropriately.
- Knowledgeable of the dynamics related to therapeutic relationships, and skillful in preparing for transition and in determining the nature of support required upon termination.
- A commitment to person-centered and family-centered practice.
- A knowledge of mindful-care practices, and demonstration of their utilization in conjunction with music therapy practices.
- A working knowledge of service systems and agencies and ability to creatively access or develop informal and formal supports or resources.
Personal:

- Possesses excellent written and verbal skills.
- Ability to provide education and training in public forums.
- Knowledgeable of the concepts of Quality Improvement (QI) and ability to implement services consistent with these concepts in a complex environment.

- Ability to demonstrate a high level of self-awareness in a therapeutic context.

- Ability to travel and work flexible daytime hours and the possibility of some evening hours.
- Successful completion of a Criminal Records Check, Adult Abuse Registry Check, and Child Abuse Registry Check.
- Proficiency in a Microsoft Office environment.
- Possesses the physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Client Care Management:
The Music Therapist will develop and implement a plan for services while ensuring adherence to St.Amant Mission and Values, policies and professional regulations.
Duties Include:
- Assesses, describes and documents the client’s needs and abilities in the scope of music therapy; develops and implements appropriate treatment interventions.
- Where appropriate, provides demonstration and training to individuals and caregivers who will be carrying out the Music Therapist’s recommendations in other environments.
- Develops and monitors clinical programs.
- Ensures the involvement of an individual’s support network, including direct caregivers and family members (where applicable) in the assessment and intervention process.
- Consults effectively with other supports and services to ensure coordination of planning.
- Documents and maintains client files in a format consistent with program protocol and timelines.
- Ensures clinical outcomes are monitored, documented and shared.
- Reports and documents all high risk or potentially high risk situations according to policy.
- Evaluates new products and equipment to meet client-specific needs.
- Develops or constructs materials for client use or supervises a clinical assistant assigned to this function.
- Develops clinical specialties/competencies in accordance with priority needs of the clients.
- Incorporates a research informed approach to the delivery of services.
