The Program Coordinator, Youth Gambling Awareness Program, supports the delivery and outreach of the program across the Province of Ontario. The Coordinator will be responsible for leading the program’s curriculum development and overseeing the program’s provincial outreach strategy including online platforms and social media. They will support the Manager to ensure all contractual obligations of the program are met and will assist with program delivery across Ontario as well as prepare research and analysis of trends and program activities.

In this role, you will:

  • Develop and implement effective outreach strategies to engage school boards, higher education institutions, youth service providers and local community and meet monthly presentation targets.
  • Deliver and facilitate educational workshops to youth (8-24 yrs), teachers, health professionals and other agencies/organizations working with youth.
  • Maintain accurate records and statistics related to the activities undertaken and outcomes achieved and provide monthly reports. Lead program’s content/curriculum development and YGAP’s online presence (delivery of provincial webinars, social media strategy, websites, etc.).
  • Plan and execute provincial youth engagement and community involvement projects.
  • Liaise and maintain regular contact with YOWs, their local supervisors and partner YMCA associations provincially and support them in the delivery of the YGAP and meeting requirements of YGAP’s contribution agreements/contracts.
  • Problem solve issues related to curriculum delivery, staffing, performance management, meeting targets as set out in contribution agreement.
  • Coordinate the recruiting, coaching, and support for YGAP Youth Outreach Workers to ensure contract targets are met.
  • Provide training to new YGAP staff and provide one large yearly training event to enhance staff professional development.
  • Manage and monitor quality benchmarks.
  • Work with program staff and other coordinators to develop program innovations and directions.
  • Prepare funder reports to review program and participant outcomes of contribution agreements at specified times, e.g., Annual Reports completion.
  • Coordinate program delivery throughout the province in conjunction with the funder, provincial staff team, and local YMCAs.
  • Build relationships with key community agencies and define and implement collaborative projects with the goal of raising gambling awareness in the community.
  • Provide support in the development and submission of proposals (conferences, grants, etc.).
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

You bring:

  • University degree in Social Services, Youth Counselling, Public Health, Education, or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 2-3 years’ experience in training and outreach activities and strategies.
  • Experience in working with youth in a Harm Reduction framework is preferred.
  • Experience in coordinating public health, prevention, and awareness activities; strong understanding of addictions and harm reduction principles; knowledge of gambling issues an asset.
  • Previous experience in program management and staff management is an asset.
  • Access to a vehicle and valid G license required.
  • High degree of independence and adaptability to ambiguity.
  • Well-developed interpersonal and relationship-building skills; able to establish rapport and communicate excellently with members, staff, and volunteers.
  • Flexibility with working hours (occasional weekends and evenings) and willingness to travel and have overnight stays when required.
  • Excellent understanding of diversity, inclusion and equity including the ability to identify and address barriers, work effectively with diverse stakeholders, and integrate equity into program design.
  • Focus on the health, safety and wellbeing of all children, youth, and vulnerable people in YMCA programs including understanding legal and moral obligations related to reporting suspected child abuse to Child Protection Services.
