Position Summary
Interior Health is hiring a Student, Biomedical Engineering for the Biomedical Engineering department. This position is based out of Kelowna. This position is for approximately four months.

What will you work on?

The student is a participant in a recognized university level Biomedical Engineering co-op program. The position is available for a four-month term. The student will complete a series of small projects, some may be assigned, and some may be selected by the student.

The goal is that the Biomedical Engineering Leadership team will receive assistance with getting some objectives completed, while the student receives an understanding of medical device use and support in the clinical environment.

TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Works with the Director of Biomedical Engineering to complete a series of projects. These projects may be either assigned or the student may select from a list or may develop their own project (subject to Director Approval).
2. Applying students will be informed that these projects will be administrative in nature. Projects will not generally involve device development.
3. The student will be required to interact with other Biomedical Engineering department staff, and with Clinical Staff throughout IH.
4. The student will assist in organizing department tasks, however, any supervisory component will be carried out by the Biomed Supervisors and any work directly on equipment will be carried out by the Biomed Technologists.
5. The student may be assigned to assist with Human Factors evaluations under the direction of the IH Quality & Safety Department.
6. The student may be assigned to shadow a Biomedical Engineering Technologist in order to complete a specific assignment, and to broaden the student’s knowledge.
7. The student may assist in completing Provincial Biomedical Engineering Federation work plan items.

Qualfications
Education, Training and Experience:

Currently enrolled in a recognized Biomedical Engineering Coop program.

Skills and Abilities:

• Ability to plan, self-manage, and implement assigned tasks.
• Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing, including the ability to collaborate within a team environment.
• Applies the problem solving process demonstrating critical thinking, decision-making skills, and systems analysis.
• Ability to utilize equipment/computer technology.
• Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
