Job Summary:

The Health & Safety Coordinator will play a key role in supporting our Health & Safety initiatives trainings and compliance across the organization. As the company continues to grow, this role is designed to gradually take on primary responsibility for health and safety functions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Health & Safety Leadership: Support the development, implementation, and maintenance of all health and safety initiatives, policies and programs.
  • WSIB Reporting and Claims Management: Manage the reporting and claims processes ensuring accurate and timely submissions. Monitor and follow up on claims to ensure they are resolved efficiently and effectively.
  • Incident Investigation: Conduct thorough investigations of accidents and incidents to identify root causes. Assist in developing and implementing corrective action plans to prevent recurrence.
  • Joint Health and Safety Committee (JH&SC) Coordination: Coordinate and facilitate monthly JH&SC meetings and inspections. Ensure active participation and compliance with established safety standards.
  • Workplace Inspections and Risk Assessments: Conduct regular workplace inspections and comprehensive risk assessments. Assist in identifying potential hazards and implement corrective measures to mitigate risks.
  • Health and Safety Training Programs: Develop, coordinate, and facilitate health and safety training programs including new hire orientation, ongoing sessions, and specialized safety instructions.
  • Return-to-Work Program: Oversee the return-to-work program for employees’ post-injury or illness. Facilitate smooth and safe transitions back to work.
  • Regulatory Liaison: Serve as the liaison with external health and safety regulatory bodies. Ensure compliance with legal requirements and stay updated on new legislation.
  • Documentation Management: Manage health and safety documentation, including policies, procedures, training records, and inspection reports. Ensure all documentation is accurate, up-to-date, and readily accessible.
  • Support for HR Team: Provide support to the HR team on various projects and tasks as required. Collaborate with HR on initiatives related to employee well-being and workplace safety.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Human Resources, Occupational Health and Safety, or a related field.
  • Some experience in health and safety or HR is preferred, but recent graduates with relevant education will be considered.
  • Knowledge of Ontario health and safety regulations.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Effective communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Working Conditions:

  • This position requires regular inspections and assessments in various workplace environments, including manufacturing or industrial settings.
