Reporting to the Manager of Capital Markets Financial Reporting, this role will support the investment accounting and financial reporting functions for OMERS Capital Markets’ business units. Additionally, this role will prepare and submit Capital Markets financial information to Corporate Finance for financial statement consolidation.

This role involves collaboration with various teams and individuals across our global enterprise. The incumbent will demonstrate expertise in accounting, investment management, financial reporting and internal controls, financial system literacy and team leadership. They will contribute expertise, a desire to build a team community, and an eagerness to develop a winning culture.

As a member of this team, you will be responsible for:

  • Month-end Oracle Cloud close processes for OMERS Capital Markets (Global Credit, Global Equities, and Global Multi-Asset Strategies)
  • Reconciliation of financial data across different systems used by OMERS Capital Markets
  • Preparing monthly financial results of OMERS Capital Markets business units, including but not limited to key notes and disclosures of Investments Asset, Investment Liabilities, Net Investment Income, Derivatives, etc.
  • Ensuring Capital Markets financial information is accurate and consistent with other disclosed information.
  • Developing a broad understanding of OMERS Capital Markets business topics and their impact on OMERS overall financial results.
  • Collaborate with various Capital Markets Finance and as well as other OMERS stakeholders
  • Maintaining, documenting, and continuously improving strong internal controls within Capital Markets Finance
  • Identifying and implementing operational improvements
  • Participating in leadership and development opportunities
  • Complete sensitive assignments at the direction of the Senior Manager or Vice President within tight time frames and with minimal supervision.
  • Addressing accounting and financial control special projects as required.

To succeed in this role, you have:

  • Minimum 3-5 years of related experience in a role applying reporting, accounting and control skills in a financial services environment.
  • Post-secondary degree in business, accounting, or finance with a CPA designation
  • Demonstrated accounting experience related to fixed income and derivative products.
  • Understanding of IFRS accounting standards (IFRS 9 and 13)
  • An interest and understanding of complex financial instruments.
  • Strong understanding of accounting and control processes as they relate to a highly technical public and private investment function as well as a demonstrated ability to implement new accounting and reporting requirements.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate across different levels within, as well as outside the organization
  • A dedication to accuracy and timeliness
  • Proven problem-solving abilities and the ability to work well under pressure and in an environment of multiple, changing requirements.
  • Experience with operational improvement and establishing efficient processes.
  • Expert level skills using Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Alteryx
  • Self-starter with strong problem-solving abilities who works well under pressure and in an environment of changing requirements.
