Position: Data Test Engineer

Contract - 6 months initial duration

Hybrid - 3 days per week in office (Markham, ON)


We’re seeking an experienced Data Test Engineer with strong technical skills and a solid understanding of coding languages used in ETL development, including Python, SQL, and XML, as well as comprehensive knowledge of data warehousing principles. The role demands expertise in troubleshooting bugs, resolving issues within ETL development, and familiarity with data warehouse structures such as ODS, DM, EDW, and ROLAP.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in Software Quality Assurance, specifically in testing enterprise-level applications with a focus on Data Warehousing.
  • Proficiency in writing complex SQL queries, identifying the types of testing required (e.g., data validation, regression), evaluating testability of requirements, and developing comprehensive test plans that align with both business and technological goals.
  • Experience with testing various phases across medium to large projects.
  • Understanding of data governance principles and their application in a testing environment.
  • Strong background in data warehouse and data mart testing.
  • Skilled in data identification and preparation for testing.
  • Ability to translate complex business logic into SQL or PL/SQL queries.
  • In-depth knowledge of Software Testing Life Cycle, Test Case Life Cycle, and Defect Life Cycle.
  • Creation and maintenance of Requirements Traceability Matrix (RTM).
  • Skilled in test case creation, execution, and QA automation tools with Python.
  • Extensive ETL testing experience and advanced SQL skills.
  • Exposure to large datasets and a strong grasp of Data Quality Frameworks.
  • Expertise in data analysis, including profiling, auditing, balancing, and reconciliation.
  • Familiarity with defect tracking tools such as Jira and ALM.
  • Experience in performance tuning for SQL queries, stored procedures, and views.
  • Detail-oriented with strong analytical capabilities.
  • Understanding of data models and entity-relationship diagrams.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, adapt quickly, and maintain focus on task completion.


Requirements:

  • Familiarity with Snowflake Cloud and AWS (S3), PostgreSQL DB, SQL databases, Hadoop Data Lake, and MongoDB.
  • Experience with ETL tools like Informatica Power Center and BDM.
  • Proficiency in developing data extraction, transformation, and load processes for structured and semi-structured data sources.
  • Background in data integration, data cleansing, and data analytics.
  • Knowledge of data modeling and design concepts for data marts and data warehouses.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities, with a proactive approach to challenges.
  • Eagerness to learn and willingness to share knowledge with team members.
  • Self-motivated with a high degree of ownership and responsibility.
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team, with a commitment to delivering high-quality results.
