We are looking for a skilled Senior Security Engineer for a temporary contract position based in North York, Ontario (remote). In this role, you will work closely with the Infrastructure and Information Security teams to establish and maintain network security and performance by implementing processes and systems, documenting procedures, policies, and systems, troubleshooting security-related problems, and monitoring the environment to ensure system security, availability, and reliability.


Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with the implementation and maintenance of cybersecurity systems and controls, including Firewalls, IPS/IDS, vulnerability scanners, SIEM systems, and cloud infrastructure.
  • Participate as a team member in the Vulnerability Management team to identify and address security risks.
  • Contribute to the Incident Management team by responding to and mitigating security incidents.
  • Collaborate with the Security Configuration team to ensure systems and networks are securely configured.
  • Assist in keeping IT and cybersecurity documentation current and accurate.
  • Help mitigate and resolve identified security vulnerabilities through proactive measures.
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and resolve Tier 3-level technical issues related to security systems and incidents.
  • Respond to, mitigate, and assist in the recovery of assigned security events.
  • Assist with compiling monthly security reports and updating Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
  • Conduct vulnerability testing and scanning, documenting results for follow-up actions.
  • Monitor and respond to security breaches or potential threats in a timely manner.
  • Maintain field expertise by participating in relevant training and certifications.
  • Take on additional security-related projects and responsibilities as requested and assigned.


Education, Experience, and Skills:

  • Education: Degree in Computer Science or related field required.
  • Experience: 7+ years in a related role, preferably in financial services or insurance.
  • Leadership: Proven ability to lead and mentor security teams, working independently.
  • Scripting: Proficiency in scripting, preferably PowerShell.
  • Security Technologies: Experience with Firewalls, IPS/IDS, vulnerability scanners, SIEM systems, Cisco Umbrella, Cisco Firepower, etc.
  • Network Tools: Hands-on experience with network monitoring and diagnostic tools.
  • Interpersonal & Communication: Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with effective team collaboration.
  • Problem-Solving: Expertise in troubleshooting and resolving complex IT issues at a Tier 3 level.
  • Environment Familiarity: Knowledge of Cisco and Microsoft environments preferred.
  • Cybersecurity Frameworks: Experience with NIST Cybersecurity Framework or similar.
  • Adaptability & Organizational Skills: Ability to handle shifting priorities and multiple tasks efficiently.
  • Ethical Standards: Strong discretion in managing confidential information.
  • Travel: Willingness to travel as required.
