We are a global player with Italian roots specializing in complex infrastructure: innovative and sustainable works that improve the lives of people. In over a century, we built some of the world's most iconic infrastructure projects. Webuild envisions, designs, and builds major works and infrastructure for sustainable mobility, hydropower, water, and green buildings.

Webuild has won a new contract to deliver the Pape Tunnel and Underground Stations section of the Ontario Line and we are currently seeking a Surveyor Assistant

This position is a full-time 100% onsite position at our downtown office.

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Surveyor with a strong topographic background to join our team for a rail construction project in Toronto. The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting topographic surveys, performing data analysis, and supporting the accurate layout and construction of rail infrastructure. This position requires a deep understanding of topographic surveying techniques to ensure precision in all phases of rail construction.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct topographic surveys for rail construction projects, including the collection of detailed land, terrain, and environmental data.
  • Use advanced surveying equipment such as Total Stations, GPS, LiDAR, and laser scanners to collect accurate data for rail alignment, grading, and drainage systems.
  • Analyze and interpret topographic survey data to create maps, cross-sections, and detailed reports to guide construction activities.
  • Establish and maintain control points, benchmarks, and reference lines for rail construction, ensuring the accuracy of the layout.
  • Collaborate with engineers and project managers to ensure that topographic data is integrated into the overall project design.
  • Provide input on rail track design and site layout based on topographic survey findings, helping optimize construction methods and minimize environmental impacts.
  • Assist in the preparation and maintenance of survey records, including field notes, sketches, and reports, and ensure compliance with project specifications and safety standards.
  • Perform as-built surveys to verify the completion of work in accordance with design and engineering specifications.
  • Address any issues related to topographic discrepancies and make adjustments to survey data or construction processes as needed.
  • Ensure that all surveying work complies with relevant safety standards, environmental regulations, and local laws.
  • Support the project team with accurate and timely data to ensure project milestones are met and that the project remains on schedule.

Qualifications:

  • Degree or diploma in Surveying, Geomatics, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 2-4 years of experience in topographic surveying, with at least 2 years specifically in rail construction or related infrastructure projects.
  • Strong proficiency in using surveying instruments, including Total Stations, GPS, and LiDAR scanning technology.
  • Solid understanding of topographic survey principles, data collection, mapping, and report generation.
  • Proficient in survey software such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, or GIS tools.
  • Knowledge of rail construction methodologies and industry standards, especially related to topographic challenges in rail corridors.
  • Experience with data analysis, interpreting topographic information, and providing insights to improve construction workflows.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with engineers, contractors, and project managers.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy, ensuring that survey data is collected and processed to the highest standards.
  • Ability to work in challenging field conditions, including rough terrain, and adapt to changing weather conditions.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certification as an Ontario Land Surveyor (OLS) or other relevant professional designation.
  • Previous experience working on rail infrastructure projects, including rail track design and layout.
  • Familiarity with environmental considerations and regulatory requirements specific to rail construction in Ontario.
  • Experience with advanced surveying technologies such as drone surveying or LiDAR.
  • Knowledge of local regulations and safety standards in rail construction.
