Our client is a well-established industrial automation company with 40+ years providing turnkey solutions across Canada. They're expanding to serve a broader market through a new system integration business unit working with multiple automation platforms.

The Role

Our client seeks an experienced Electrical Engineer to help launch a new system integration division. This position is critical to their growth strategy as it will enable them to serve a larger portion of the industrial automation market. For the right candidate with leadership potential, this role offers a clear path to eventually manage the engineering team, making it an excellent opportunity for someone looking to advance their career into a management position.

What You'll Do:

  • Assess client needs and develop automation solutions for specific manufacturing challenges
  • Design control systems including electrical schematics, panel layouts, and I/O wiring diagrams
  • Create detailed bills of materials with component specifications for accurate project costing
  • Develop control programs for PLCs, drives, servo systems, and HMIs that meet performance requirements
  • Configure SCADA systems for real-time monitoring and data collection
  • Program and integrate robotic systems with vision capabilities
  • Perform factory acceptance testing and lead on-site commissioning
  • Provide comprehensive technical documentation

Project Experience Areas:

  • Food and beverage production lines with strict hygiene requirements
  • Automotive manufacturing systems for precision assembly and testing
  • Plastics industry applications including injection molding and extrusion automation
  • High-precision steel-cutting operations requiring complex motion control
  • Automated palletizing systems with pattern recognition
  • Vision-guided robotic applications for quality inspection

Required Qualifications:

  • Electrical Engineering or Mechatronics degree
  • Experience with major industrial automation platforms common in North America
  • Advanced programming knowledge of ladder logic, structured text, and function blocks
  • Experience with servo motion control systems and HMI development
  • Understanding of industrial communication protocols including EtherNet/IP and Modbus
  • Strong troubleshooting skills and ability to remain calm under pressure

Experience:

  • 2-15 years of relevant experience (technical ability valued over years of experience)
  • Track record of successfully completed automation projects from concept to commissioning
