Hays Construction & Development is partnered with a long-standing client and top GC employer in Ottawa to recruit an experienced Senior Estimator with an ICI background. Projects will include institutional, commercial office towers, new builds and fit up/tenant improvements.

Your new role

Reporting to the Director, you will take on the traditional role of a Senior Estimator in a busy construction environment. You will be responsible for preparing comprehensive cost estimates for major construction projects and actively participating in the planning, development, negotiation, and execution of contracts. In addition, you will oversee and manage all aspects of the estimating and pre-construction process, from planning, organizing, and scheduling project work, to meet project goals.

You will also work with project management and business development to determine budgeting, general conditions and strategic position for project opportunities being considered. You will research construction documents and analyze specifications, ensure relevant documents and budgets are submitted before a bid deadline and regularly report to Management and keep clients updated on the project status.

What you'll need to succeed

To be considered for this very important role, you should have Post-Secondary education in Engineering, Architecture or Construction. You should have at least 5+ years of previous, practical experience in a similar role and be very strong with your IT skills, estimating software (e.g. Sage, Procore, Timberline or similar), and Microsoft Suite (excel & Outlook). Familiarity with CAD is a plus.

You should have very strong communication and interpersonal skills and be comfortable working in a team of other like-minded individuals.
