Alberta Health Services – North Zone, is actively recruiting a Family Medicine Physician to establish afull-time practice in the community of Grande Prairie.

This position will provide services: In patient, Community Clinic & Long Term Care services.

Once chosen, the successful candidate may choose to operate their business by joining an existing practice or opening their own practice or joining an existing practice. This is the candidate's independent business decision and will not be managed through the recruitment process.

Responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Reside in and have as his/her primary residence within the community of Grande Prairie
  • Establish and maintain full time community-based practice within the community of Grande Prairie
    • Provide hospital care (rounding) for his/her admitted in-patients, low-risk obstetrics is optional
    • Participation on the call rota for unattached patients admitted to Long-Term Care/Continuing Care facilities in Grande Prairie
  • Obtain and maintain an AHS Medical Staff Appointment and appropriate privileges to provide the services
  • Abide by the AHS Medical Staff Bylaws, the AHS Medical Staff Rules and AHS policies
  • Participate in quality improvement programs and initiatives undertaken within the Department of Family Medicine;
  • Participate in relevant Continuing Medical Education (CME) programs;
  • Contribute to and participate in teaching programs and activities; interest in leadership;
  • Contribute to and participate in other administrative responsibilities, as assigned;
  • Work collaboratively with peers and care team colleagues in support of patient care

The Grande Prairie Regional Hospital is a new "State-of-the-Art" 250 bed acute care facility with a busy emergency department, ICU, NICU and specialty services in OB/Gyn, orthopedic surgery, general surgery, ophthalmology, ENT, urology, palliative care, pediatrics, and psychiatry; hosting over 10,000 discharges; including radiation therapy services, further increasing the capacity to provide services to the people of Northwestern Alberta and Northeastern British Columbia - Virtual Tour - Grande Prairie Regional Hospital

Required Qualifications:

  • Recent and relevant experience (with the past 2 years) in all areas of practice required,

  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS);
  • Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS);
  • Pediatric Life Support (PALS)

Desired Qualifications:

  • College of Family Physicians of Canada (CCFP)
