The Opportunity
The Manager, Data Operations manages the team of data engineering and integration professionals for WAA. This role is responsible for the delivery of tools and support processes surrounding system integration and data management, with the goal of increasing employee efficiency, driving innovation and delivering the organization’s business reporting and analytics strategy.
Responsibilities include:
- Provide leadership in data operations, overseeing strategy, and helping cultivate a data-driven culture.
- Lead and mentor a team of data engineers and integration specialists.
- Collaborate with key stakeholders to understand data needs and challenges.
- Efficiently allocate resources for data analytics and integration projects.
- Contribute to the airport's strategic plan, aligning data initiatives with organizational goals.
- Contribute to Data Governance by implementing and enforcing data governance policies and procedures to ensure compliance and data quality across the organization.
- Develop and enforce data security policies to protect sensitive information, ensuring compliance with data privacy regulations.
- Implement metrics and KPIs to regularly assess data quality and take corrective actions to address data quality issues.
- Develop and implement data acquisition, storage, integration, and security strategies.
- Manage the departmental budget and control expenses while optimizing operations.
- Negotiate contracts with external vendors and consultants, ensuring cost-effectiveness.
- Ensure compliance with regulations and best practices in data management.
- Has the authority and responsibility to hire, provide training, development and coaching, regular performance discussions and annual performance appraisals, investigate, discuss matters that lead to discipline and terminate direct report employees.
- Make binding decisions on policy, planning, and budgetary matters.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Data Science, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Advanced certifications in data analytics, business intelligence, or project management preferred.
- 5+ years of managerial experience in data analytics and integration, preferably in aviation or transportation.
- Proficiency in budgeting and cost management.
- Exceptional oral and written communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate effectively across functions.
- Proven ability to motivate teams and achieve goals in a time-sensitive environment.
- Deep expertise in data analysis, integration, and database management systems, including SQL, Oracle, Apache Spark, Google BigQuery, Amazon Redshift, Snowflake, Databricks, MongoDB, Elasticsearch, and Apache Kafka.
- Proficiency in data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI) and statistical software (e.g., R, Python).
- Demonstrated experience in team leadership and project management.
- Knowledge of data governance, quality management, and privacy regulations (e.g., GDPR, CCPA).
- Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze complex data and derive actionable insights.
- Effective communication and presentation skills for technical and non-technical audiences.
- Track record of driving innovation and process improvement in data analytics, data engineering, and integration.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and meet deadlines.
- Resourceful with strong prioritization skills for multiple initiatives and willingness to take on new responsibilities.
- Previous experience with SQL Server, Power BI, Snowflake, DataBricks, and MS Azure is a plus.
