Position Summary

We currently have an exciting opportunity for you to bring your excellent work ethic to our therapy department.

In accordance with professional standards and code of ethics as outlined by the College of Occupational Therapists of British Columbia (COTBC), the Occupational Therapist works independently and collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team providing occupational therapy services including assessment, treatment planning and implementation, program planning, consultation, equipment prescription and education of residents/ clients/patients ('the client') and/or their caregivers to promote functional independence and enable the client to achieve and maintain optimal health outcomes in inpatient, outpatient, residential and community settings. The Occupational Therapist contributes to the organization and the overall goals of the profession and department; participates in departmental/program quality assurance initiatives, meetings, research, and education; and provides work direction to the rehabilitation assistants working with the rehabilitation team. The Occupational Therapist provides input to the Manager by participating in the development of guidelines and procedures; research and continuous quality improvement initiatives for the department. Performs administrative duties as required.

Shift Rotation/Hours of work: Monday to Thursday / Days - 08:00 to 16:00

New Wage: As of April 1, 2024, the new wage is: $42.56 - $52.95/hour

Kitimat General Hospital is a 19 acute bed hospital with a full range of services. Some services provided are emergency, laboratory, diagnostic imaging, outpatient chemotherapy clinic, physiotherapy, diabetes, and chronic disease management. Regular rotation of visiting specialists in internal medicine, urology, otorhinolaryngology (ENT), dermatology, neurology, ophthalmology, and radiology.

Qualfications
• Graduation from a recognized occupational therapy program
• Current registration with the College of Occupational Therapists of British Columbia (COTBC).
• Practice specific requirements and experience in programs applicable to practice area.
• Valid BC Driver's license where required.

Skills and Abilities:
• Demonstrated ability to complete initial and ongoing client assessments (clinical and diagnostic reasoning) through appropriate/prescribed technical, therapeutic, safety type interventions.
• Ability to teach clients and others both one-on-one and in groups.
• Integrates best practice and current research evidence to support professional practice decisions and actions.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with clients, families, the public, medical staff and members of the interdisciplinary team using verbal, written, computer communication means. Ability to effectively apply conflict resolution skills..
• Demonstrated ability to integrate and evaluate pertinent data (from multiple sources) to problem-solve and make decisions effectively. Applies the problem solving process demonstrating critical thinking and decision making skills using a systems approach.
