Our LP Smartside facility in Dawson Creek is one of the largest such mills in the world. As a member of our team, you will be a self-motivated and high performing individual with a bias for action and safe work habits.
In this position you will have the opportunity to:- Demonstrate a commitment to our safety culture by actively participating in the Safety Program and performing all duties in accordance with safety rules, regulations, and policies.
- Assist in the management and implementation of Louisiana-Pacific’s Sustainable Forest Management Plan, along with other industry and Government participants.
- Develop partnerships with officials from industry, all levels of government, First Nations representatives, stakeholders, and landowners to obtain input and seek resolution on land and resource stewardship issues.
- Participate in and/or facilitate a variety of committees, round table discussions, technical and public meetings as a LP representative such as the Dawson Creek Results Based Pilot Project Public Advisory Group.
- Work and form positive relationships with LP team members, First Nations, Government Agencies, the Public and other Stakeholders.
- Management and preparation of LP’s Forest Operations Schedule.
- Prepare and negotiate contracts, implement, monitor performance, and authorize payment.
- Conduct both field and office activities which relate to Planning, including block design and reconnaissance.
- Ensure compliance with operational plans, company policies, safety program, Sustainable Forestry Initiative Certification and legal requirements.
- Work closely with the Harvesting Team to prepare and schedule blocks for harvest.
- Coordinate block development and permitting requirements with LP and contract team members.
- Coordinate, develop, and support project plans related to land and resource stewardship issues at the strategic, landscape and watershed scales.
- Achieve key performance measures by participating in LP’s performance management system.
- Assist with budget preparation and managing costs within your specific responsibilities.
- Provide support on the implementation and maintenance of the Dawson Creek Forest Certification program (SFI), as required.
- Plan, participate, and/or lead other team projects as requested.
- Minimum 3 years forestry experience
- Preference may be given to a Registered Professional Forester with the FPBC.
- Excellent leadership, communication & project management skills, with the ability to work within a team environment.
- Ability to plan and coordinate resources and multi-task and be adaptive.
- Excellent knowledge of applicable B.C. legislation and policies.
- Proficient in using a computer & related software and forestry applications including GIS.
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license.
- University Degree or Forest Technician Diploma
