This advanced level Respiratory Therapist performs advanced respiratory work in the Sleep Disorders Clinic. The RT II plans, implements and evaluates diagnostic therapy of patients with sleep disordered breathing to ensure appropriate management of these patients. The Respiratory Therapist II will function as an alternate care provider, who is able to independently assess, manage and evaluate patient care according to the Respirologist’s initial assessment and the RT II will continue with follow up care for the patient. Follow up care includes but is not limited to CPAP/BPAP setup, monitoring and titration, going over the polysomnography test (PSG) and Home Sleep Apnea test (HSAT) results with patients with guidance from the Respirologist. The RT II is responsible for identifying new equipment requirements, establishing and maintaining adequate level of supplies and materials for the clinic, and liaising with manufacturer representatives to remain competent with the newest available therapies and equipment availability. The RT II ensures that there is Respiratory Therapist representation at patient care rounds to discuss and provide input into respiratory care and treatment plans for sleep disordered breathing patients. The RT II provides patient education on sleep disordered breathing, CPAP, and BPAP modalities. The RT II provides expertise in the specialty area of sleep disordered breathing and makes decisions on advanced clinical care regarding client needs and interventions. The RT II is expected to resolve unusual and complex cases that are referred by the Respirologist.
As a Respiratory Therapist II, you will coordinate, monitor and assess clinical services in your assigned area. You will act as a clinical resource for daily operations, coordinating the work of therapy assessment and treatment in your service area, and assist in the development of clinical protocols. You will develop and implement respiratory therapy care plans and monitor the progress of patients (clients, residents) receiving advanced respiratory treatment. You will identify new equipment requirements, and establish and maintain adequate levels of supplies and materials for your area. You will be responsible for respiratory equipment, including but not limited to operation, procurement, maintenance, and quality assurance. You will participate in interprofessional patient, client or resident rounds, conferences and meetings where applicable.
Active or eligible registration with the College and Association of Respiratory Therapists of Alberta (CARTA).
Graduate of a recognized School of Respiratory Therapy accredited by the Council on Accreditation for Respiratory Therapy Education (CoARTE). Current BLS-HCP with the physical ability to perform CPR on adult patients. A working knowledge of Connect Care, Netcare, Outlook and Word as well as other applications is required. Must have excellent communication and documentation skills, and the ability to participate as an interdisciplinary team member. The candidate needs to be able to work independently and needs to have high organizational and prioritizing skills. An intermediate level of physical activity is required to fulfill job requirements including but not limited to reaching above shoulders frequently, looking up frequently, prolonged periods of keyboard computer work and the ability to assist patients with mobility limitations is required (i.e.: transfers, bariatric clients, bending, stooping, twisting, walking distances). Must be able to lift and carry 10-15kg regularly. Must be physically able to lift 50 pounds.
Recent Critical care RRT experience (within the last 5 years). CRE. Recent Ambulatory care experience within the last 2 years.
