Our valued client is looking for a Fractional QA Analyst to join an existing team of 4 to aid in the overload of testing requests.


Key Notes:

  • $60 - $65 / hour pay rate
  • Around 20 hours per week. Hours may increase over time.
  • Contract until December 2025 at the earliest
  • This role is hybrid but there is a significant amount of work that needs to be done on site in Calgary during regular business hours.
  • 80% manual testing with a bit of automated testing experience
  • SQL database knowledge


The Intermediate to Senior Quality Assurance Analyst (contract) position will play a crucial role in the IT QA team, delivering excellent quality assurance services for IT projects. These services include:


  • Execute quality assurance and control processes to identify issues early and ensure products meet business requirements.
  • Acting as an intermediary between the project team and vendors to ensure a clear and effective testing process that meets stakeholders’ requirements.
  • Ensuring data security and integrity during vendor software testing, seamlessly integrating billing, customer management, and financial systems, and conducting comprehensive end-to-end tests.
  • Proficient in testing energy settlement and billing software, with strong financial system domain knowledge, ensuring vendor software meets stakeholder expectations.
  • As a member of the testing team, you will plan, design, execute, and report on tests, ensuring adherence to standards and regulations, while collaborating with teams to deliver quality and improve processes.


Accountabilities:

  • Develop QA artifacts (test plans, test cases, coverage, execution reports) based on project scope.
  • Create QA strategies and deliverables for all project phases (requirements, design, development, integration, deployment, business acceptance, release).
  • Create a test plan that addresses business needs and aligns testing activities with development, deployment, validation, business acceptance, and production release.
  • Executing complex testing scenarios, perform root cause analysis for defects, and suggest process improvements.
  • Execute quality assurance processes by acting as a liaison between QA teams, development teams, and business stakeholders, and providing detailed reports and actionable recommendations
  • Execute quality assurance processes by assessing project risks, ensuring adequate test coverage, and proactively identifying and mitigating risks.
  • Execute quality assurance tasks by creating detailed test cases and scripts, performing manual and automated testing, and validating software to meet business requirements.
  • Develop a comprehensive regression test suite to ensure new code changes do not impact existing functionality.
  • Continuously learning and applying new techniques to improve and accelerate QA processes, resulting in greater efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Perform quality assurance tasks by effectively using test management tools for manual testing, ensuring comprehensive test coverage, managing defects, generating test reports, and conducting automated testing.
  • Create and execute SQL queries for back-end testing, validate data integrity, and ensure proper data flow throughout the system.
  • Collaborate with the QA team to continuously improve QA standards and best practices.
  • Manage and protect sensitive data during vendor software testing, ensure seamless software integration, test backup systems for reliability, and perform complex calculations.


You have:

  • Bachelor’s Degree, Diploma or Certificate in Computer Sciences (or other Technical), ISTQB Foundation Level or Advanced Level.
  • 10+ years in software delivery and testing life cycle
  • 8+ years in Quality Assurance, specializing in manual testing across functional, integration, system, performance, and user acceptance testing.
  • 2+ years’ experience in utilizing automated testing tools and utilities for functional regression and API testing.
  • 2+ years’ experience in Iterative and Agile methodologies, including Sprint and SCRUM frameworks, to enhance Quality Assurance processes.
  • Experience in using Test Management tools for creating test cases and test suites, managing defects, executing tests, and reporting test results.
  • Experience in working with Oracle and SQL Server databases, including writing and executing SQL queries.
  • Experienced in testing settlement processes, including invoicing, data validation, reports, and financial settlements.
  • Experienced in quality control of vendor-provided solutions, including SaaS and COTS, ensuring compliance with industry standards and client requirements.
