POSITION SUMMARY:

An Estimator will be responsible to provide essential estimating support for mechanical project related to Oil and Gas Facilities and Industrial Projects. Additional responsibilities will include completion of take-offs, solicitation for third party pricing, performing calculations, and compiling data for use in estimates completed by MasTec Canada.


Preference will be given to those candidates living in and around Edmonton, AB.


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Review and understand client’s commercial and technical documents to ensure scope alignment.
  • Identify early within the estimate process areas for optimization through use of alternate materials and/or subcontracting strategy.
  • Prepare as required requests for information (RFI’s) to be submitted to the client for clarification of issues that are not clear within the client’s proposal.
  • Maintain a contact list for third party pricing.
  • Identify work scopes that will require third party pricing and maintain an active third-party pricing log during the estimating process.
  • Develop the scope of work and price sheets for third party quotes and issue for pricing.
  • Respond to request for information from third parties during the estimating process.
  • Receive, review, and evaluate quotes from third parties ensuring that they are both technically and commercially compliant which may require the issue of additional request for information from third parties.
  • Recommend based on your evaluations which third party quotes should be carried within a estimate.
  • Complete multi-discipline take-offs as required for sitework, concrete, structural steel, piling, process equipment and piping.
  • Assist with project close-out activities including but not limited to completion of proposal documents, performing estimate reconciliations and benchmarking.
  • Participate in estimate status review meeting and project close meetings.
  • Ensure working documents are maintained, complete and properly stored within MasTec’s IT environment
  • Assist in compiling historical cost data for projects.
  • Perform site investigations if required.
  • Become familiar with all estimating software used by MasTec.
  • Other duties as assigned


EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Post secondary technical education is a requirement. Diploma or degree education related Construction Management, Civil, Process, Mechanical or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 2 to 5 years’ experience in estimating Oil and Gas Facilities and/or Industrial Mechanical Projects
  • Experience with Hard Dollar software is an asset


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Ability to read, analyze and understand proposal commercial and technical documents.
  • Strong ability to review and understand project drawings.
  • Write reports, business correspondence and document project activities.
  • Proficiency Microsoft Office Suite including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Proficiency with Bluebeam.
  • Ability to work with 3D models to extract quantities.
  • Ability to maintain positive working relationships with others, both internally and externally
  • Calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume; ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
  • Ability to assume responsibility to interface and communicate effectively with others, have strong interpersonal skills and be self-motivated.
  • Ability to anticipate, understand and respond to the needs of project managers, superintendents, clients, customers and the general public
