Minimum Qualifications:- DZ license
- Supervisory experience in delegating tasks, training and meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Basic computer skills
- Ability to remain on call after hours and work outside in inclement weather conditions
- Experience in snow and ice control, emergency response, winter patrol and/or knowledge of OTM Book 7
- Knowledge of highway maintenance, Highway Traffic and Environment acts and legislations
As a Lead Hand, you will prioritize, organize, and allocate tasks to your assigned crew as well as train on OTM Book 7 procedures, performance requirements in the CDMC and Miller Values of Safety, Quality and Integrity. You may communicate with authorities on site and liaise with the MTO central dispatch to ensure adequate resources are available to maintain public safety on the highways during adverse conditions. When you are not patrolling the highways or doing minor repairs, you will be conducting daily circle checks on vehicles, cleaning and performing minor repairs, as well as estimating time, materials, and equipment required to complete tasks and contract requirements. Safety will be your number one priority, as you conduct regular tailgate talks with the staff and when providing traffic control at accident scenes and making snow and ice control decisions such as initiating equipment and operator call outs. It will also be important to stay organized when completing and reviewing daily diaries, time sheets, fuel logs, etc. to ensure they are all accurately completed and submitted on time.
