About Air Canada's HRHO

As a company, Air Canada ensures that its employees work in an environment that is free from harassment and violence. The Human Rights and Harassment Office (HRHO) was established as a confidential, independent, and impartial office to oversee the resolution process by receiving, treating, and resolving all occurrences of harassment and violence, including sexual harassment, sexual violence, discriminatory harassment, and domestic violence. It acts as Air Canada's Designated Recipient and devotes its resources to preventing harassment and violence in the workplace through sensitivity and awareness training.

Description of the Role

The incumbent will act in the capacity of the Designated Recipient, to respond to notices of occurrences of harassment and violence, and properly guide and advise a party to the resolution process. More specifically, the Advisor will work for the HRHO and help foster a workplace free of harassment and violence. While they will work autonomously, the HRHO is committed to providing training and support in a collegial and team-focused environment. This is a full-time permanent position that supports the HRHO and reports to the Director, Human Rights and Harassment - Canada (Director). The incumbent could work in a hybrid arrangement.

Responsabilities:
  • Respond to notices of occurrences and provide guidance on the Resolution Process to the parties.
  • Active Participation in Negotiated Resolution (i.e., early conflict resolution) with the parties and relevant stakeholders to facilitate discussions to reach a resolution.
  • Ensure prompt resolution of occurrences, including conflict.
  • Provide guidance to managers and other stakeholders, as required, on issues of misconduct and other related concerns to restore and ensure productive workplaces.
  • Collaborate with HRHO team members and external stakeholders to ensure workplace health and safety across the Company.
  • Act in compliance with federal legislation, including the Canada Labour Code and the Work Place Harassment and Violence Prevention Regulations by namely respecting timelines, providing the parties with status updates and mandatory documentation.
  • Record all information relevant to a notice of occurrence in the HRHO database, collect and save data required by law, and resources for the HRHO.
  • Identify trends and systemic issues in the workplace by managing and collecting data and analytics, and update the Director, as required.
  • Familiar and comfortable with the Company's applicable policies (from both a legal and procedural standpoint).
  • Supporting all necessary parties, including unionized employees and managers (at both the local and more senior levels), when queries and guidance is sought on harassment and other matters implicated in the applicable policy and related HRHO documents.
  • Providing training and education to stakeholders on the Resolution Process, more specifically, Negotiated Resolution.
  • Provide support as required to the investigators (both internal and external) and investigations.
  • Schedule, as required, events and meetings for the HRHO company-wide.
  • Enhance and update the HRHO Aeronet webpage - ensure information may be easily and properly accessed based on employee group and location.
  • Create communications and visual materials for the HRHO, as needed.
  • Case management functions using existing tools and identifying opportunities for new tools.
  • Update, as required, all HRHO-related documents and applicable forms.
  • Participate in appropriate work-related functions that promote a harassment-free environment and encourage awareness about the role of the Human Rights and Harassment Office.
  • Perform special projects and other duties, as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Proficient in both English and French (oral and written).
  • Successful completion of a Diploma of College Studies (DES) or an undergraduate degree at a Canadian university in Law, Social Sciences, Psychology, Human Resource Management, or a related field.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience in providing intake, complaint handling, and conflict resolution assistance.
  • Ability to work with escalated and sensitive matters.
  • Strong active listening and interviewing skills.
  • Strong plain language writing skills.
  • Ability to work autonomously, and be a strong team player.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality, a high level of professionalism, and tact in communication.
  • Exceptional organizational and time management skills and strong ability to multitask.
  • Critical thinking skills to facilitate resolution of challenging scenarios, including the ability to analyze sensitive, complex, and confidential issues.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Computer literate (e.g.: M/S Office application, Adobe Acrobat Pro).
  • Interest in and commitment to continuous learning.
  • Ability to travel, as required.
Desirable qualifications (Asset)
  • Knowledge of Canadian legislation on harassment and violence, including the Canadian Human Rights Act, the Canada Labour Code and the Work Place Harassment and Violence Prevention Regulations.
  • Experience handling sensitive matters.
  • Experience managing issues related to workplace harassment and violence.
  • Conflict resolution, mediation, or Alternative Dispute Resolution training/certification.
  • Knowledge of de-escalation techniques.
  • Experience working in a large corporation.
  • Airline experience.
  • Experience working with a diverse workforce.
