The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry has protected Ontario's precious resources for more than 150 years. Our team of passionate professionals seeks a skilled communicator who values building strong and effective relationships with Indigenous communities and non-Indigenous stakeholders.

We seek a strong team player to coordinate and advise the ministry's collaboration with Indigenous communities on resource management programs. This position works closely with Indigenous communities in Southern Ontario through consultation, engagement, and knowledge-building opportunities, and is focused on developing and maintaining relationships through excellent communications.

This position is part of the Aylmer Guelph District, a dynamic team that is highly collaborative and that works to develop and support each other in managing Natural Resources in Southwestern Ontario. This team values innovation, initiative, and leadership at all levels. Our primary business lines are lands, aggregates, and fish and wildlife.

What can I expect to do in this role?
  • Provide advice, plan and lead Indigenous programs and initiatives.
  • Promote understanding, cooperation, and participation in the ministry's sustainable resource management programs with a focus on lands and resource allocation with communities and other users.
  • Act as the ministry representative or advisor in resource and issue negotiation with Indigenous communities and associations.
  • Assist in the development and delivery of community outreach initiatives to non-Indigenous communities.
How do I qualify? Mandatory
  • You possess a valid class G driver's license or equivalent, as recognized by the Province of Ontario.
Specialized Knowledge:
  • You have the ability to learn or have knowledge of and sensitivity to Indigenous culture, social and economic issues, concerns, legislation, policies, and communities within the service area.
  • You have the ability to learn or have knowledge of and experience applying natural resource management principles, practices, policies, and procedures and government resource management policies, programs, operations, and initiatives.
  • You have the ability to act as a ministry representative in fulfilling the Crown's duty to consult (Section 35 of the Constitution) for land use and natural resource management.
Communication and Interpersonal Skills:
  • You have proven conflict resolution and facilitation skills to negotiate and build consensus on resource management issues.
  • You demonstrate abilities to foster effective relationships with stakeholders and Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities and associations.
  • You have the ability to provide advice and information effectively and produce written products such as briefing notes, reports, presentations, and correspondence.
Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills:
  • You have demonstrated ability to research and analyze information and data to respond to requests, issues, and/or concerns.
  • You are able to apply policies, procedures, and directives to determine/recommend solutions and provide issues management support.
Administrative Skills:
  • You possess proven skills to prepare work plans/budgets and track and monitor expenditures/deliverables.
  • You are able to prioritize, coordinate, track, and complete work in given timeframes.
