Position Summary
The Human Resource Manager partners with facility managers and supervisors to facilitate effective communication and deliver superior bottom line results for multiple sites located multi-provincially. Align human capital to deliver maximum value to the customer. Develops key HR indicators to measure human capital performance.
Position Responsibilities
- Lead human resource initiatives. Implement processes and procedures that streamline human resources efficiencies. Counsel supervisors on employee performance issues including termination. Assure timely and fair resolution of same. Conduct investigations as needed. Partners with management to maintain union free operations in all facilities.
- Attract and retain talent through proactive recruitment of hourly and salaried employees. Partner with operations management to implement a superior recruitment process. Oversees internal job posting system. Re-write job descriptions as necessary. Organize and distribute hardware and other equipment. Collaborate with supervisors/leaders to build departmental organization layouts and succession plans.
- Using LEAN principles where applicable, recommend new approaches and effectively create, implement, and sell necessary policies and procedures to improve site effectiveness while balancing employees' needs. Provide open and honest communication regarding these activities.
- Ensure compliance to all applicable regulatory laws such as the ESA, The Act, OSHA, AODA, CNESST and the Human Rights Code.
- Create and design training plans that increase skill sets of employees; these systems need to work in conjunction with legislative and company requirements. Partner with Health and Safety personnel to reduce accidents/incidents and DART cases.
- Participate in developing department goals, objectives, and systems, including configuration of HRIS as needed.
- Establish and maintain department records and reports. Participate in operations and DC staff meetings to provide leadership and advice on HR issues.
- Responsible for oversight of the payroll, and Health and Safety functions in addition to HR reports, ensuring adherence to all regulatory requirements.
- Create and manage annual department budget.
- Travel between provinces quarterly at minimum. Additional requirements for travel as needed.
Knowledge and Experience
- Seven (7) to ten (10) years prior human resources experience in a union-free manufacturing/distribution environment.
- Minimum of five (5) years of verifiable leadership experience preferred.
- Demonstrated leadership and change management skills. Previous experience in counseling supervisors and managers in resolving employee issues and concerns demonstrated business acumen.
- Customer-focused to both internal and external customers.
- Demonstrated experience as a change advocate, an employee advocate, business partner and trusted advisor for management team.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to react quickly to employee needs, questions, requirements.
- Must have good knowledge of HR legislative requirements (benefits, payroll, taxes, provincial and federal regulations, etc.).
- Excellent organizational skills; good time-management skills, strong project management.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suites.
- Previous HRIS experience required; Workday experience preferred.
- Strong conflict resolution skills.
- Experience writing multi-provincial policies an asset.
- Bilingual in French and English preferred.
Education and Certification
- BS/BA degree in Human Resources required.
- CHRP required, CHRL preferred.
