The position of Surface Grinder performs surface grinding operations to grind external surfaces of metallic components as per outlined drawings and/or specifications.

Please note we are hiring for day shift:

Monday to Friday from 7:30 am to 4:00 pm.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensure parts and components are visually acceptable and dimensions meet requirements outlined in process sheets or diagrams;
  • Mount and dress the required grinding wheel for the manual grinder(s)
  • Complete in-process and final process quality checks, as required, using micrometers, gauges, etc.
  • Use various hand tools as required.
  • Set appropriate magnetic check or related job to hold components securely for grinding operation
  • Check provided drawings to verify machining dimensions
  • Maintain clean work station and general shop housekeeping
  • Interpret sketches, drawings, specifications, or sample parts to determine dimensions and tolerances for their specific operation, sequence of operation, and setup requirements.
  • Operate an overhead crane to lift and set pieces that are heavy.
  • Select, align, and secure holding fixtures and grinding wheels.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

TECHNICAL SKILLS/EXPERIENCE

  • 1-2 years of experience in a similar role
  • Knowledge in the areas of interpreting detailed and complex drawings, specifications and tolerances
  • Knowledge of machine shop setting preferred
  • Strong ability to effectively operate and maintain machining equipment ensuring that high standards of quality are achieved in an effective and cost-efficient manner.
