Kitchener Ontario MA, Waterloo region, Canada Premierelv Full time

The Grand River Regional Cancer Centre/Waterloo Wellington (GRRCC) is currently recruiting fellows/qualified residents/locum physicians to work evenings/nights covering the inpatient oncology unit at Grand River Hospital. This position is effective immediately.

The successful candidate duties will include coverage of the inpatient ward and any admissions from the Emergency Room from 5 pm to 8 am, scheduling flexible. This coverage will consist of answering phone calls, placing orders in our EMR, and coming in-house to assess acutely ill inpatients and admit acutely unwell patients from the emergency room. Most of the work can be done from home, if the candidate is within 1 hour driving distance of the hospital, but we can provide accommodation in hospital as well.

The inpatient ward consists of patients with hematologic and solid tumor malignancies, including patients with leukemia on induction and consolidation chemotherapy, and auto-transplant recipients. The inpatient census varies but is usually between 15 and 20 patients, with zero to 2 admissions overnight, on average.

Medical and hematology back up are provided via a second call system provided by our staff oncologists in the adjacent Grand River Regional Cancer Center.

Remuneration is highly competitive. This role is ideal for a PGY 3/4/5+ looking for extra income, especially covering Friday pm to Monday early am (can negotiate leaving by 6 or 7 am Monday). Certification in Family Medicine by the College of Family Physicians of Canada, or certification in internal medicine by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, and eligibility for independent licensure in the Province of Ontario are required. The successful applicant must also obtain and maintain privileges at Grand River Hospital.
