PV Labs is an advanced imaging solutions company specializing in the design and development of turnkey aerial imaging systems based on our core technology platforms. Our deep expertise is in the design and development of solutions that require high-performance stabilization, optics, and data management that leverage common software and hardware components, and bespoke stabilization engineering that is redefining how gyrostabilized optical systems are engineered.

About the Contract

We are seeking an Electrical Designer with an insatiable appetite for layouts for a 6-month contract (to start) to help us out with accelerating our product delivery.

Reporting to the Vice President of NPI, indirectly to a Project Engineer and working alongside a small but mighty team in our Electrical Lab, you will be accountable for 4 main things throughout this 6-month contract:

  • Create elegantly crafted layouts derived from requirements generation, architecture/design, and bespoke customer requirements.
  • Validation of main aspects of electronics, interconnects, signal integrity, FPGA and programmable logic development, and embedded software.
  • Ensure design requirements are not only properly understood but really well documented.
  • Lend your voice, experience, and curiosity to how our designs influence the operability and evolution of our state-of-the-art gyro-stabilized optical payloads in our regular design and code reviews.
The Details:
  • Layouts will include verification of complex multi-layer FPGA and Microprocessor circuit cards used in high-speed and high-power applications.
  • Perform some electrical simulations using LTSpice.
  • Leverage a Design-for-Test approach to facilitate the testing of embedded boards and systems.
  • Potentially design functional test systems to verify designs and validate manufactured assemblies.
High-Value Technical Skills
  • Strong working knowledge of PCB and circuit board manufacturing processes.
  • Advanced electrical CAD skills using Cadence, OrCad, or Allegro.
  • Familiarity with design for military power and environmental requirements.
  • Familiarity with design for aircraft safety requirements is an asset.
About You as an Electrical Designer

Above all else, you're fast, competent, and used to working with tight tolerances for space and power. You absolutely love doing PCB layouts but that's not your only trick.

  • Not afraid to seek out responsibility and opportunities to take the lead.
  • A confident technical communicator who can articulate ideas and concepts, but who also knows that confidence in communication means the ability to ask for help or collaboration when you need it.

  • Participating in requirements generation sessions, not just being a passenger.
  • Preference for working on small teams that actually communicate with each other.
  • The kind of professional maturity that enables you to manage your own time and priorities and finds motivation from multiple sources.
