About the role:

The Food Safety Specialist is an integral member of the site’s food safety management team. Responsible to support the daily tasks of the food safety department including maintaining food safety programs for the Brantford facility and as per company policies and procedures. The Food Safety Specialist must be able to communicate and interact with all levels of personnel and assimilate pertinent information and data. Must possess the ability to manage multiple activities as well as urgent requests in a professional and timely manner. The Food Safety Specialist has a strong commitment to food and employee safety and ensures compliance at all times.

Key responsibilities:

  • Coordinate, implementation, maintenance of the food safety system and support the improvement of food safety culture.
  • Investigate gaps in the food safety programs, initiate corresponding corrective actions, and follow up the CAPA status.
  • Assist in FSMS implementation collaborating with QA, operation, and planning, warehouse department and outside stakeholder.
  • Coordinate and assist employee and contractor training programs (GMP /HACCP, Allergen, CCP, etc.).
  • Conduct CCP/OPRP verification & validation, and provide support to operations investigating CCP/OPRP findings and deviations.
  • Participate in GMP and internal audits and implement necessary CAPAs.
  • Implementation GFSI (FSSC) and third party certification (Kosher-Parve, Bonsucro, RSPO, UTZ) standards and ensure their compliance.
  • Monitor HACCP and SOPs to ensure policies & procedures are properly carried out.
  • Monitor allergens/label control including document verification and sign-off.
  • Monitor production activities to ensure compliance GMP/PRPs/OPRPs/CPs/CCPs.
  • Organize and sign-off tools/equipment cleaning validation records.
  • Coordinate the Foreign Body Tool Box, Dairy Free Swab monitoring and change-over flush program.
  • Act as backup for Food Safety Supervisor.
  • Ensures compliance with all food and employee safety policies and procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Food Safety Supervisor & Sr. QA Manager.

About you:

  • University graduate or College diploma in Food Science, Microbiology, Biology, or related science discipline.
  • International HACCP alliance accredited HACCP certified.
  • PCQI and internal auditor certificate will be an additional assets.
  • SQF Practitioner and internal auditor certificate will be an additional assets.
  • Knowledge of designing, implementing and managing GMP and HACCP Food Safety Plan in a food manufacturing industry.
  • Experience in GFSI (BRC/SQF/FSSC 22000), Kosher, regulatory audits are highly desirable.
  • Working knowledge of manufacturing data systems such as SAP, Salesforce and DMS.
  • High level of computer competency (SAP, Microsoft Office).
  • Practical experience with sanitation process, inspection, and internal audit.
  • The ability to work cooperatively in a team environment.
  • Ability to work with a variety of people and to be assertive as required.
  • Ability to work effectively under minimal supervision.
  • Willingness to learn and teach others, be self-directed and motivated.
