Job Description

Assistant Teacher Responsibilities:

  1. Establish and maintain a safe, healthy, and nurturing learning environment.
  2. Understand and implement The Goddard School emergency procedure(s).
  3. Promote healthy eating practices at lunch and snack times.
  4. Ensure that children are always within state ratio requirements.
  5. Perform nominal cleaning responsibilities (e.g., spills) immediately.
  6. Adhere to all GSI Health and Safety policies and procedures.
  7. Advance children’s physical and intellectual competence.
  8. Create a multi-cultural learning environment.
  9. Interact with the children to support play, exploration, and learning.
  10. Encourage children to talk with each other and with the faculty.
  11. Present age- and developmentally appropriate expectations for all children.
  12. Encourage creativity through art, music, dramatic play, and blocks.
  13. Provide a reasonable balance between teacher-directed and child-directed activities.
  14. Provide opportunities for both active and quiet play.
  15. Support each child’s social and emotional development and provide positive guidance.
  16. Understand and adhere to the GSI Behavior Policy.
  17. Implement activities to develop children’s self-esteem and social skills.
  18. Implement activities to enable children’s feeling of security.
  19. Encourage empathetic and respectful feelings for others, as well as the environment, through positive modeling.
  20. Respect cultural and ethnic diversity.
  21. Communicate, in a professional manner, with families and faculty.
  22. Build teamwork.
  23. Manage classrooms according to GSI QA Standards.
  24. Use assessment tools (e.g., Progress Reports, Children’s Progress).
  25. Maintain professional commitment.
  26. Promote GSI philosophy and educational objectives.
  27. Support a code of ethical conduct.
  28. Pursue professional development/continuing education.
  29. Attend faculty meetings, in-service days, conferences, and professional growth opportunities.
Qualifications

Assistant Teacher must possess a high school diploma or higher education.
