D.M. Wills Associates Limited is in search of a Senior Project Engineer to join our Dam Engineering Group. The ideal candidate will have a background in structural engineering with experience working on dam and water control structure projects.

Reporting to the Group Leader, Dam Engineering you will provide project management and engineering services in support of a range of dam and water control structure projects, including dam inspections, other field investigations, dam safety reviews, and dam rehabilitation and replacement design.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and execute dam related projects including dam rehabilitation or replacement designs, dam safety reviews, dam inspections, and other projects as assigned.
  • Perform site inspections and condition assessments of existing concrete, steel, or timber water retaining and conveyance structures (dams).
  • Assess structures and investigate alternative methods for carrying out remedial projects for water retaining and flow control structures (i.e., dams, weirs, intake structures, retaining walls, spillways, etc.)
  • Undertake stability assessments for concrete gravity dams.
  • Prepare technical documentation including letters, reports, drawings, specifications, and construction contract documents.
  • Contribute to business development and marketing activities for existing and new clients and undertake the preparation of technical proposals.
  • Provide direction to engineering teams and maintain project quality.

Significant Qualifications and Experience:

You must be a highly motivated and an independent learner with a desire to be involved with all aspects of consulting engineering services related to dams.

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering (structural focus).
  • Licensed as a Professional Engineer in Ontario.
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience related to the Key Responsibilities noted above, preference is 10 years.
  • Knowledge of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry (MNRF) Technical Bulletins and Best Management Practices for Dams and the Canadian Dam Association (CDA) Dam Safety Guidelines and Technical Bulletins.
  • Available to undertake fieldwork across Ontario.
  • Hold, or be eligible to obtain, an Ontario G class driver’s license.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite.
