Introduction
Manitoba Conservation & Wildfire Services is looking for enthusiastic, energetic, and motivated individuals interested in filling the roles of Fire Operations Manager in Thompson. Conditions of Employment

  1. Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
  2. Must possess and maintain a valid full-stage Class 5 Manitoba Driver's Licence without restrictions
  3. Must be willing and able to work evenings, weekends, and overtime as required
  4. Must be willing and able to travel throughout the Province of Manitoba as required, including flying frequently in a wide variety of small aircraft in adverse weather conditions and be able to stay overnight as required
  5. Must be physically able to perform the duties assigned to the position

Qualifications

  1. Essential: Graduate of a resource-based or emergency management program from a recognized college or university. An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered
  2. Experience in wildfires including emergency management best practices, wildfire operations, prevention, mitigation, and incident management
  3. Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills with the ability to find creative solutions to issues and implement change
  4. Experience supervising and leading staff
  5. Experience in financial management such as managing budgets for operational and program resources
  6. Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to create and maintain positive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  7. Strong verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with various audiences
  8. Strong written communication skills
  9. Experience providing strategic advice to senior leaders on complex topics and sensitive issues while demonstrating political acumen
  10. Experience with the design and implementation of policies and/or programs

Duties
The Fire Operations Manager (FOM) is responsible for the implementation of key aspects of the regional wildfire management program, including prevention, detection, pre-suppression, and suppression operations. The FOM is responsible for the supervision of Area Fire Managers and for the procurement of goods and services to support regional operations as well as the coordination of wildfire resources within the region. The FOM is also required to perform the duties of the Regional Duty Officer on a rotational basis during the wildfire season and to provide coverage for other positions as needed.
