Position Title: Project Manager (Customer facing)

Main Functions

The role of the Project Manager is to plan, execute, and finalize customer projects according to deadlines and within budget through the full project life cycle. Responsibilities include creation, tracking, updating and communicating all project efforts and ensuring all communication is flowing throughout project team members as a whole. A client-facing project manager will interface with customers frequently to deliver on-time and on-budget project outcomes. They will also focus on client relationship building, apply feedback, help keep the project on track, and work to address any issues that arise during the project life cycle.

The Project Manager is responsible for project integrity to maintain costs and deliverables in accordance with customer contracts, including but not limited to tooling and equipment design and build and product development. They will work closely with customers, suppliers, engineers, tooling, manufacturing, and operations.

Essential Job Functions

  • Oversee and support ongoing major customer activities including ongoing/repeat business.
  • Manage the implementation and delivery of projects to support total client engagement and drive growth.
  • Coordinate and manage projects through the project life cycle, making detailed plans to accomplish goals and directing the integration of technical activities.
  • Plot the trajectory of a project to ensure all assets and deliverables are completed on time and in the correct order.
  • Proactively monitor projects to identify risks to successful project completion and on-budget execution; offer creative solutions to risks and delays.
  • Quickly and efficiently identify and report red flags during projects to reduce risks.
  • Develop project timelines using Gantt Chart tools and present project status to customers, company management, and project teams.
  • Identify and regularly communicate project updates and risks with internal and external teams to ensure successful delivery of projects for customers.
  • Develop and track customer requirements, production volume, timing of production, and material requirements.
  • Lead cross-functional teams through successful completion of the project life cycle adhering to established gates and project goals. Effectively communicate project expectations to team members and stakeholders in a timely and clear fashion. Follow up with team members to ensure project deliverables are on schedule and escalate as required.
  • Define project scope, goals, and deliverables that support business goals in collaboration with senior management and stakeholders.
  • Maintain an active role in the review process of RFQs and new projects. Keep accurate documentation of quote details.
  • Build information for customers on review of DFM for concept/preliminary tooling/equipment layout.
  • Work closely with the engineering team, outside vendors, and customers to properly schedule and manage costs of projects.
  • Proactively manage changes in project scope, identify potential crises, and devise contingency plans.
  • Track project timelines and milestones using appropriate tools.
  • Estimate the resources and participants needed to achieve project goals.
  • Set and continually manage project expectations with team members and other stakeholders.
  • Identify and manage project dependencies and critical path.
  • Proactively track & monitor the health and status of projects, updating project schedules and dependencies with information received from team members.
  • Develop and deliver progress reports, proposals, requirements documentation, and presentations.
  • Define project success criteria and disseminate them to involved parties throughout the project life cycle. Conduct project summaries and create recommendations reports to identify lessons learned during the project.
Employment And Educational Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree or diploma in engineering or related discipline or equivalent education/experience is ideal, but proven project management with customer care experience is acceptable.
  • Project Management Institute (PMI) accreditation, or comparable, is an asset.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and application of project management principles, techniques, tools, and methodologies to client-facing services projects.
  • 3-5 years direct work experience in a project management capacity, including aspects of process development and execution.
  • Proven ability to prioritize and balance projects, tasks, and stakeholder groups.
  • Results oriented, with a track record of successful project execution and a proven ability to report on project performance.
  • Knowledge of plastics manufacturing including extrusion & molding preferred, with an awareness of tooling acquisition requirements.
  • Demonstrated expertise in Microsoft Office; project planning and related tools (MS Project, Smartsheet, etc.).
  • Display a keen sense of urgency and self-motivation in executing tasks and meeting objectives.
  • Ability to adapt and prioritize meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Work as part of a cross-functional team and independently with excellent personal time management skills, creating a collaborative project environment is essential. Proven ability to foster successful relationships with peers in various departments and levels of management.
  • Can conform to shifting priorities, demands, and timelines through analytical and problem-solving capabilities. Flexible during times of change.
  • Proven track record of managing all aspects of a successful product throughout its lifecycle.
  • Skill in organization, analysis, time management, prioritization, and the ability to meet deadlines for multiple tasks.
  • Proficient computer skills (Microsoft Word, Project, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Excel), and instructional software.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
