Position Summary
As a Senior Project Accountant you will be responsible for full cycle accounting for specified projects in a high-volume workplace. Reporting to both the Ventana Senior Corporate Accountant and the Seagate/VSP President, you’ll play a critical role within the organization, supporting the entire Operations Team.
As a Senior Project Accountant your key accountabilities will involve:
- Overseeing all financial aspects of projects from beginning to end to support the Project Manager and team including budgeting, forecasting, and month end project reporting.
- Managing billing, accounts receivable (A/R), accounts payable (A/P), general ledger (GL), cost accounting, and revenue recognition.
- Ensuring accurate and timely payroll processing.
- Preparing timely financial reports for project managers, including budgets, cashflows, and forecasts.
- Maintaining and reconciling books of accounts, balance sheet, and general ledger, applying general accounting principles (ASPE standards).
- Preparing monthly Work-In-Progress reports, financial analyses, and monthly, quarterly, and annual reports.
- Investigating and resolving account discrepancies.
- Preparing and filing statutory returns (WCB, GST, EHT) and T5018 filings.
- Assisting in managing company cash flow, handling cost control, year-end preparations, and financial reporting tasks.
- Processing vendor invoices, ensuring accurate coding and timely payments, and preparing monthly vendor contract cheques.
- Setting up projects in accounting software (e.g., SAGE 300 CRE) and ensuring accurate data entry.
- Monitoring and managing job cost accounting, reclassing entries, and subcontracting commitments.
- Performing monthly bank reconciliations
- Researching and responding to accounting and financial queries related to projects.
- Supporting accounting and project teams as needed.

As a Senior Project Accountant your experience and qualifications will include:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Business, or Accounting.
- CPA designation or equivalent is an asset.
- At least 5+ years of progressive experience in accounting.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in construction accounting practices and proper operating procedures and job costing.
- Strong understanding of internal control systems and procedures.
- Strong understanding of debits and credits.
- Extensive knowledge of accounting processes and best practices in project accounting.
- Proficiency in MS Office (especially Excel) and accounting software (e.g., Sage 300 CRE).
- Ability to analyze complex financial data and generate actionable insights.
- Familiarity with ASPE accounting standards and BC regulatory requirements.
- Experience with preparing for and managing audits.
- Proficiency in preparing detailed financial reports and forecasts.
- Experience in overseeing financial aspects of projects from inception to completion.
- Ability to mentor junior staff and lead accounting initiatives.
