Mott MacDonald's Calgary office has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our team.

Reporting to the mechanical discipline lead, you will contribute to a variety of projects locally as well as across Canada and around the world, with a focus on transportation projects. As a Senior Mechanical Engineer with Mott MacDonald, your day will include:

  1. Managing the delivery of assigned projects.
  2. Working and liaising with associated engineering disciplines as part of delivering projects.
  3. Managing internal and external stakeholders, ensuring client satisfaction and pursuing and promoting opportunities with existing as well as prospective clients.
  4. Developing engineering from a feasibility stage to completion, and articulation to the support team.
  5. Development of resilient and redundant services infrastructure solutions.
  6. Working as part of a multi-discipline team to deliver projects.
  7. Working with the leadership team to grow the Mechanical team in Calgary and the overall footprint of the business.
  8. Coordinating mechanical design with architectural and other disciplines.
  9. Carrying out design and calculation work using relevant industry software.
  10. Developing, maintaining and monitoring programs for scheduling and reporting on deliverables across specific projects.
  11. Maximizing profitability of projects, monitoring against budget, reacting and anticipating potential problems and communicating in line with client expectations.
  12. Demonstrating technical expertise, providing in-depth knowledge and leadership whilst proactively coaching and developing more junior team members.
  13. Providing expert engineering input into design; and evaluation of built environment proposals.

The education, skills and experience to truly excel in this role will include:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering.
  2. 15 years of mechanical design experience that includes transit sector projects. People with less than 15 years of experience will still be considered.
  3. Experience in various methods of project delivery, such as Design-Build, Design-Bid-Build, Progressive Design-Build, Construction Management at Risk, etc.
  4. P.Eng. license, or eligibility for licensing as a P.Eng. in the Province of Alberta is required.
  5. In-depth knowledge of design specifications/requirements of transit authorities.
  6. Excellent understanding of BIM/VDC, preferably with experience in a BIM tool.
  7. Understanding of all engineering disciplines (mechanical / communications / electrical / structure) with expertise in mechanical.
  8. Experience in the design of plumbing and drainage systems.
  9. The design and/or planning and/or design of large-scale public buildings.
  10. Skills in sustainability and green initiatives, with a demonstrated track record.
  11. A consultative approach to dealing with clients.
  12. A proven record in business development with established connections with owners, end users and Architects.
  13. Ability to analyze information and offer solutions to clients that exceed expectations.
  14. Positive ‘can-do’ attitude, to working with colleagues and clients.
  15. Experience of working within an Integrated Management Systems environment.
  16. Proficient in the use of typical office packages such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, MS Project and other comparable programs including the desire to utilize the full capabilities of Office365.
  17. Proficient in energy modeling software such as IESVE, Trace and HAPP.
  18. A proven record in optimizing designs using automation and standardization.
  19. Adaptable to working within different client environments/cultures.
  20. Willing and able to travel within Canada and internationally as required to support projects.
