Hope Air is recruiting a new Senior Manager: Advocacy & External Relations for Atlantic Canada. This role is focused on Hope Air advocacy and stakeholder engagement within the provinces of Newfoundland & Labrador, Prince Edward Island, Nova Scotia & New Brunswick. This position will be located in Atlantic Canada. 

Hope Air provides non-emergency medical travel programs (airline, hotel, bridge/ferry, meals and airport ground transportation across Canada). In Atlantic Canada, Hope Air works in collaboration with partners to support equitable access to health care for individuals and families. 

Applicants should have extensive experience and knowledge of relevant provincial health care policies and systems, public affairs, government relations, stakeholder engagement and project management. 

  

Responsibilities include: 

  • Lead in the strengthening of Hope Air stakeholder relationships in Atlantic Canada including government, donors, airlines, airports, municipal and regional organizations, volunteers, etc. 
  • Collaborate with the Hope Air Senior Management Team to positively influence decisions of government, policy makers, and other funders in support of Hope Air programs.
  • Advise on all relevant ongoing dynamics that impact access to health care programs, whether delivered through government, private or charitable sector.
  • Elevate the profile and communicate the impact of Hope Air amongst current and prospective stakeholders.
  • Research, Analyze and Report on changes to provincial health care policy and programs relating to access to health care for patients required to travel far from home for diagnosis and treatment.
  • Provide “on the ground” recommendations to improve Hope Air program delivery that optimizes patient centric delivery.
  • Lead in the collection and reporting of all relevant data and metrics on the impact of Hope Air programs at the patient and community level including reduction of wait time for diagnosis and treatment, reduction or elimination of out-of-pocket expenses, increase in patient’s ability to stay in community, reduction in time spent away from work relating to medical treatment, benefits of public/private funding partnerships, etc. 
  • Create quarterly reports that detail both quantitatively and qualitatively, Hope Air impact metrics in each Atlantic Province. 

Qualifications: 

  • In depth knowledge and minimum 5+ years experience within the health care sector, including provincial government health care systems in Atlantic Canada.
  • Degree in Public Policy, Health Sciences, Economics or Communications
  • Strong leadership and team development skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and timelines.
  • Excellent verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Project Management & Data Analysis ability
  • Self-starter and able to work independently 
  • Well connected with provincial health care stakeholders across Atlantic Canada
  • Understanding of the charitable sector and public/private funding models to deliver programs within health care. 
  • Understanding of the unique challenges faced by low-income or vulnerable people living in rural, remote or underserved communities and access to health care.
