Overhead Crane Technician

Reporting to the Branch Manager, the Crane Technician performs inspections and testing on various hoists and cranes to ensure safety certification is in accordance with provincial and federal regulations. The Crane Technician also assists the sales team with quotes and makes recommendations for repair work.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Performs inspections, preventative maintenance and repairs on various hoists and cranes.
  2. Diagnoses equipment problems and estimates costs of equipment repairs, replacements, maintenance, etc.
  3. Performs maintenance & trouble shooting on overhead electric cranes and their components.
  4. Consults with customer regarding all repair and safety-related issues and discusses recommendations.
  5. Completes reports on inspected items neatly and accurately either by Cert Tracker or inspection sheets and submits to administration for processing.
  6. Maintains paperwork and records of used inventory for billing and certification purposes.
  7. Picks up and delivers products to customers as required in company truck.
  8. Assists in the development of efficient and effective work methods that are consistent with the company’s policies and procedures.
  9. Provides input to customer quotes.
  10. Completes cycle counts of inventory on a periodic basis, as required.
  11. Performs general labour and/or maintenance work.
  12. Complies with company quality and safety procedures for completing work.
  13. Follows customer Safety and Quality rules when working at a customer’s site.
  14. Maintains company equipment used on a daily/weekly/monthly basis.
  15. Some travel, possible work evenings and weekends as required.
Qualifications
  1. High school diploma or equivalent.
  2. Experience as an Overhead Crane Technician.
  3. Experience performing maintenance & troubleshooting overhead electric cranes.
  4. Experience with maintenance, inspection and repairs on mobile cranes and man-lifts.
  5. Experience with working at heights, Lifting Gear Inspection, Wire Rope Examiner and ASME/OSHA rigging fundamentals and requirements.
  6. Knowledge of electricity and hydraulics, capable of troubleshooting for general maintenance.
  7. Must hold a valid driver’s license and be insurable.
  8. Must safely lift 50 lbs. from floor level to waist level.
  9. Establishes work priorities, ensures deadlines are met and procedures are followed.
  10. Ability to accomplish multiple tasks in a timely and efficient manner.
  11. Communicates with customers in a professional manner.
  12. Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.

Please note: Successful candidates must provide a driver’s abstract with driving records from the Department of Motor Vehicles showing less than 6 demerit points loss in the last 3 years and no criminal infraction on traffic laws and no responsible accidents other than the ones on file. Successful candidates will be required to pass a criminal background check as a condition of employment.
