Job Summary:
As a biomedical technician, you will play a crucial role in supporting medical professionals by conducting a variety of laboratory tests and procedures. Your expertise in handling biological samples, operating laboratory equipment, and accurately analyzing data will contribute to the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of diseases. You will work closely with other laboratory staff, medical technologists, and healthcare professionals to ensure the delivery of high-quality and timely test results.
Responsibilities:
Sample Collection and Handling
-Collect and receive biological specimens, such as blood, urine, tissue, or other body fluids, from patients or healthcare providers.

-Ensure proper labelling, storage, and transportation of samples to maintain sample integrity and prevent cross-contamination.
Laboratory Testing and Analysis:
-Perform a variety of laboratory tests, such as blood counts, urinalysis, cultures, and microscopic examinations, according to established protocols and standard operating procedures.

-Operate and maintain laboratory equipment, including microscopes, centrifuges, and automated analyzers, ensuring accurate and reliable test results.
Data Entry and Record-Keeping:
-Record and document test results accurately and promptly in electronic or paper-based laboratory information systems (LIS).

-Maintain comprehensive and organized records of laboratory activities, including sample logs and instrument maintenance logs.
Quality Control and Assurance:
-Adhere to strict quality control measures to ensure the accuracy and reliability of test results.

-Participate in proficiency testing and monitor quality assurance indicators to identify and resolve any issues or deviations.
Troubleshooting and Maintenance:
-Identify and troubleshoot technical issues with laboratory equipment or test procedures, seeking guidance from senior staff or supervisors as needed.

-Conduct routine maintenance and calibration of laboratory instruments to ensure optimal performance.
Safety and Compliance:
-Follow standard safety protocols and infection control measures to maintain a safe and clean laboratory environment.

-Comply with all regulatory requirements, including those set forth by governing bodies and accrediting agencies.
Collaboration and Communication:
-Work collaboratively with other laboratory staff, medical technologists, and healthcare professionals to ensure seamless workflow and efficient delivery of test results.

-Communicate effectively with medical professionals, providing them with accurate and timely updates on test results when required.

Qualifications:

- Diploma/Associate Degree or Bachelor's degree in Biomedical Technology, or a related field.

-Relevant certifications and licensure as required by regional or national regulations.

-Previous experience in a medical laboratory setting is preferred but not mandatory for entry-level positions.

-Strong attention to detail and accuracy in conducting laboratory tests and analyzing data.

-Familiarity with laboratory information systems (LIS) and proficiency in data entry.

-Knowledge of laboratory safety procedures, quality control, and regulatory compliance.

-Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
