Job Summary:
The Pharmacy Assistant assists the Pharmacist in the technical aspects of prescription filling and administrative duties in order to increase the Pharmacist's opportunity to provide patient care. The Pharmacy Assistant is expected to participate in all aspects of Pharmacy Operations required of a team player and is a key member in the delivery of superior customer service.

Responsibilities:

  • Receive prescriptions from patients in accordance with regulatory requirements and provincial laws, ensuring completeness of the prescription including name, address, DDN, allergies, third-party information, special requests, prescriber, generic/brand, and prioritize prescriptions according to guidelines.
  • Perform computer functions as directed by the pharmacist, including data entry, price verification, updating patient information, interpreting and processing written prescriptions, recognizing Latin abbreviations, medication names, dosage calculations, processing renewals, generating reports, and checking patient profiles.
  • Fill prescriptions under the supervision of the pharmacist; select appropriate products; follow accuracy programs including 7-point checks and visual checks; select, count, measure, and prepare appropriate products; label and prepare for pharmacist verification; obtain necessary approvals for verbal renewals when permitted.
  • Maintain inventory control; assist the pharmacist in maintaining appropriate stock levels of medications and supplies; check and remove expired medications monthly; organize and manage returns; order medications and supplies; check, price, and store pharmaceutical orders; ensure proper zoning of pharmacy shelves.
  • Stock supplies for prescription preparation; keep the pharmacy clean, organized, and orderly; maintain a safe working environment; clean dosage and packaging devices, computers, and fax machines.
  • Administrative tasks: file prescriptions, invoices, reports, correspondence, and perform assigned administrative tasks (e.g., journals, accounts receivable, expired product audits).
  • Assist in the operation of the PVL, including ordering, stocking, and cashier duties as assigned by the PVL manager or pharmacist.

Age – 16 or older.
