Job Summary

You will be responsible for the strategic and operational responsibilities related to supervision and training of staff members carrying out Marketplace Events’ digital functions: including website CMS, and related ongoing maintenance. This position will ensure web and digital functions operate within the structure and scope of an integrated marketing and communications plan supportive of Marketplace Events’ corporate strategic plan.

This position assists with website design and leads a variety of digital strategies and tools to support Marketplace Events’ communication goals in relation to 70+ consumer event websites.

Leading collaborative, cross-departmental teams, this position supervises. plans, leads, and executes digital strategy including producing online materials/products/plans for digital consumption. They maintain familiarity with emerging trends and technologies and advocate for the use of best practices in the digital space. The work and decisions of the position are highly visible and have direct repercussions on the goals and successes of Marketplace Events digital real estate including a significant impact on the brands reputation.

Under the direction of the VP Digital Marketing and Corporate Marketing Officer, and in collaboration with the show teams and marketing team, this position assists with Sitefinity CMS web development, providing creative and technical support from design to implementation. This includes supervising the creation process of a wide variety of content for multiple channels and mediums (portal, digital, social media, print, web, etc.) and provide recommendations to team members on visual and creative direction with a focus on accessibility and user experience (UE/UX).

Specific Duties

  • Lead, train, and support individual teams within the organization, along with one direct report, and be part of a digital team actively engaged in contributing to and accomplishing the vision, mission, and goals of 70+ events.
  • Lead and supervise the creation of plans, policy and research in effective CMS design, web/digital accessibility, and user experience (UE/UX) best practices and communications methods, and trends within Canada and the USA.
  • Author and govern standards, lead training, and support website users while overseeing written technical and graphics guidelines and standards for all Marketplace Events CMS websites and applications. This includes collaboration with subject matter experts in various fields including marketing, operations, HR, media agencies, etc.
  • Supervise the production, accuracy, quality control methods, and publishing of CMS content.
  • Lead, supervise and govern front-end development and implementation of the CMS and other digital services and platforms.
  • Lead the assessment and deployment of new standards, technologies, and trends, and provide guidance on best practices to determine the best direction for the websites and other digital service adoption/implementation.
  • Assist with setup and maintenance of digital services, including but not limited to the website CMS (Sitefinity), Google Analytics and Google Tag Manager.
  • Assists with managing, identifying, troubleshooting and remediation of website issues/bugs and digital services in collaboration with Web Developer roles, providing direction and supervision.
  • Manage and govern the creation of online forms for gathering of information – ensuring compliance and adherence to relevant Privacy Acts.
  • Govern and oversee execution of administrative functions for all aspects of UI/UX development and content for Marketplace Events’ Sitefinity CMS portal.
  • Govern and administer user accounts and passwords for team members and content creators within Sitefinity CMS.
  • Govern and ensure adherence to Web Content Accessibility Guidelines and other relevant accessibility standards.
  • Author, maintain, and ensure adherence to Design System Guide and other relevant brand standards.
  • Provide Search Engine Optimization of the websites and other digital services.
  • Monitor and provide reports on CMS performance using Google Analytics.
  • Ensure collaboration with every department, and region with relation to Marketplace Events’ websites and other digital services.
  • Develop, advise, and mentor show teams supporting web, digital, and content activities.
  • Further develop and maintain a seasonal audit process and work with other team members and departments to confirm the proper procedures are always followed.
  • Provide key backup support for other Digital Team members (Web & Analytics Manager, Web & Email Coordinator, Exhibitor Listing Administrator/Onsite QR Lead Management and Decal Production).
  • Other related duties as assigned by the VP Digital Marketing.

Skills & Qualifications

  • 4 years or more experience working in CMS web design development and management (preferably Sitefinity CMS), or an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Experience with Web Design, User Experience Design, and Website Development.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered with preference given to candidates who have:
  • Successfully completed a Web Design professional program.
  • Experience working in the event industry and/or with CMS web portals and apps.
  • Strong project management skills.
  • Minimum of three years’ experience in a supervisory or project management role.
  • Expert proficiency in Content Management System Administration, Google Analytics, Google Tag Manager, mobile/responsive web design and current WCAG Standards.
  • Advanced proficiency in the following applications preferred: Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator), Progress Sitefinity; experience with .NET will be considered an asset.
  • Ability to communicate complex and technical ideas to others in plain language.
  • Excellent customer service skills; motivated to provide quality service and technical support.
  • Knowledge of marketing/digital marketing principles.
  • Ability to act as a brand and design owner.
  • Ability to effectively manage time and schedules as applicable to the yearly event calendar.
  • Ability to create and analyze reports.
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team.
  • Ability to evaluate and adopt new and evolving website technologies and trends.
  • Ability to create, compose, proofread, and edit written materials.
  • General knowledge and understanding of current authoring languages, editing, and authoring tools and related website technologies.
  • Knowledge of graphics creation and manipulation optimized for palette, size, and speed of download, and an eye for good graphic design.
  • Knowledge of design principles, including page layout, typography, and colour theory, as they apply to the web.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of colleagues on a diverse team located in multiple locations across the USA and Canada.


Requirements

  • Travel to marketing and corporate meetings on a yearly basis.
  • Ability to work or be ‘on call’ to remotely assist during weekends when events occur.
