Job Summary

The Associate Director, Community and Food Programs, reports to the Director, Advancement and leads the growth, operation and vision of the Surrey School Districts Fundraising, Advancement, and Food Program departments. This includes guiding teams in the establishment, operation, and assessment of the districts food programs and enhanced revenue generation through the identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of donors and funders.

The Associate Director enhances the districts revenue generation and food security programs operational capacity by providing central review, assessment, direction, guidance, planning and management across two dynamic, diverse and complex public school district departments.

Key Responsibilities:

Provide leadership and expertise in operating the districts food programs, including breakfast, lunch, snacks, weekend, and school break food.

Identify and implement best approaches on universal food program implementation across the district and identify funding sources.

Ensure compliance with Canada Food Guide, BC Nutrition in Schools Guidelines, and food safety protocols across all district food programs, teaching kitchens and PAC operated food programs.

Assess, review and implement ways to reduce stigma in meal program operations.

Optimize meals served to students in terms of costs, quality, tracking, reporting, improvements, strategy and customer service

Negotiate agreements to address cost and enhance food and service quality.

Provide leadership to the Business Development team, including establishing long-term and annual goals, and ensuring adherence to district guidelines, policy, and procedures.

Work with internal shareholder to determine priorities for fundraising and allocation of department resources.

Cultivate new high-level corporate and individual donors.

Develop and implement a standard donor recognition program.

Work with the Business Development team to develop communication strategies to continuously promote donations stories, protocols, and pitches through a variety of communication channels or using a variety of communication platforms.

Act as the Districts representative in significant donor negotiations and meetings, reviewing non-standard or high-level sponsor and donor agreements.

Oversee the recruitment, performance evaluation, and professional development of departmental staff, ensuring a customer service-oriented culture and maintaining high-quality teams.

Recommend annual revenue and expense budgets and monitor activities throughout the year to ensure targets are met for all departments.

Qualifications:

Education & Experience:

A degree in Food and Nutrition Services or similar, or Business/Finance, Hospitality/Hotel Management; or an equivalent combination of post-secondary training and experience.

Seven or more years of recent, related experience and leadership experience.

Experience in a complex, multi-site organization is an asset.

Active or eligibility Member of Canadian Society of Nutrition Management is preferred.

Completion of Level II Food Safe Certificate or ability to complete is an asset

Registered Dietician and/or Certified Fund-Raising Executive (CFRE) designation will also be considered .

Drivers License and vehicle is required.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

Advanced written and verbal communication skills with the ability to create program materials, reports, and presentations.

Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain collaborative relationships with internal and external shareholders, including the ability to balance needs and interests of diverse groups.

Advanced networking and presentation skills and knowledge

Strong relationship management and interpersonal skills and ability to communicate across all levels of the organization including with District senior management and the Board of Trustees.

The salary range for this position is $120,257 to $150,321per year with comprehensive benefits package and Municipal Pension.

Placement in the salary range is determined by an assessment of qualifications and ability to meet the key requirements of the job, and consideration of internal equity comparisons. The midpoint of the range represents an employee that possesses full job knowledge, qualifications, and experience for the position.
