Hours of Work: Monday to Friday; 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM

Location: Saskatoon, SK

Salary Range: $19.23 to $28.85 per hour, depending on experience

Part-time (20 hours/week) or Full-time (40 hours/week) negotiable.

This is a government funded internship, and interns must meet the following requirements to be eligible:

  1. Full-time or part-time post secondary student
  2. Canadian citizen, permanent resident or refugee
  3. Able to commit to a 12-20 week work term

The work-term is in-person, able to be in Saskatoon during the desired work-term.

What Does a Student Programmer Do?

A Programmer is responsible for development and documentation of software and electrical/electronic control systems. They are a motivated, detail-oriented individual who enjoys teamwork. They ensure production runs smoothly by:

  • Researching and evaluating software frameworks and electrical control systems for suitability to project requirements.
  • Performing software development, testing, and documentation on a variety of computer and embedded platforms.
  • Designing and implementing software tests to ensure correct and robust software operation.
  • Preparing technical documents for projects, including specifications, technical reports, and product documentation.
  • Reporting on completion dates, material changes or substitutions, shortages, and schedule modifications.
  • Performing other tasks, as assigned and deemed safe by the supervisor or designate, that may or may not be in your area of work.
  • Adhering to the non-disclosure agreement.

What Qualifications Do We Look For?

  1. A working knowledge of programming tools and techniques. Ideally, we're looking for a student in a programming, computer science, or related program.
  2. Strong organizational skills to prioritize tasks and manage multiple orders simultaneously.
  3. Excellent problem-solving and analytical abilities with strong attention to detail and precision.
  4. Ability to communicate technical information clearly and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
  5. Familiarity with at least one programming language (Python, C++, etc.) with an eagerness to learn others.
  6. Proficiency in analyzing and manipulating datasets.

Additional Qualifications Considered An Asset:

  1. Experience with PLC programming and embedded controls.
  2. Working knowledge and commitment to use of version control tools (Git).
  3. Interest in working on innovative technologies within the One Health spectrum.
  4. Interest in hands-on work related to fabrication and testing of programmed devices.
