Director of Operations – Metering Services



The opportunity:

As the demand to maintain stable and reliable energy resources across Ontario grows, our client plays a key role in ensuring this. Due to growth in the business and creation of defined divisions, they have a newly created role for Director of Operations for the Metering Services division.

What you’ll be doing in the role:


  • Develop operating divisions through the growth and development of employees. Contribute to this development with a particular focus on Metering and CapGemini staff.
  • Provide and execute strategic plans to enhance the corporation's service offering, quality control, and efficiency.
  • Report financial statements and outlook to ownership with a strong focus on reference on budgets and forecasts.
  • Manage the performance and provide yearly evaluations with a grading matrix for each of the team members in the Metering and CapGemini divisions.
  • Contribute to sales and business development efforts, add customers, and determine new potential services throughout Ontario.
  • Support the Metering and CapGemini teams in seeking, reviewing, and managing contractors as well as vendors. Ensure relations remain stable and ongoing.
  • Review proposals and bid process with teams to ensure there is a consistent and effective tender submission review and strategy prior to sending out proposals.
  • Ensure there are regular productive team meetings that ensure the members of the Metering and CapGemini teams are aware of group performance and have plans to make improvements, ensure safety training and awareness is up to date and at the forefront of all activities.
  • Contribute to long-term strategic direction and priorities of the company and the Metering division.
  • Contribute to all Human Resources functions including policies, recruitment, onboarding, and exiting employees.
  • Work to enter new geographical and market segments deemed on strategy (hiring, office locations, travel, seeking new business).


What you bring to the role:


  • Post-secondary education in a relevant area of study; Electrical Engineering, Business, or similar in an area related to electrical distribution/utilities.
  • Additional trainings such as PMP, leadership training, etc. are an asset.
  • Minimum of 10 years related experience, with at least 5 years in a leadership role, preferably in the electrical distribution industry.
  • Knowledge of high-voltage electrical systems is required.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with a proven ability to work with internal and external stakeholders and colleagues in a positive manner.
  • Strong construction and safety processes / regulations.
  • Knowledge of accounting principles, numerical aptitude, experience managing a departmental budget.
  • Detail-oriented and ability to develop, implement, and control projects and manage budgets effectively
  • Strong computer skills including MS Office, AutoCAD or other electrical design software. Experience with project management software is required.
  • Valid driver’s license with suitable driving record and ability to travel at times is required.
