Your future role on our team

Your role as a Mechanical Designer will consist of preparing 3D models, drawings and other technical documents for mining projects, but also in power and heavy industry. You will also provide quality service and maintain positive relationships with colleagues and clients by contributing to projects in the mechanical engineering discipline. As part of a growing office, we are looking for someone to work within the mechanical team to help deliver fast paced projects, help grow the team and progress their career with BBA.

  3. Design of chutes, tanks and plate work
  4. Design of Mill processing buildings

  7. Prepare designs using 3D CAD software
  8. Participate and contribute to project coordination, internal and client review meetings
  9. Coordination of project specifications with construction documents
  10. Carry out technical assignments for projects such as system setup, deliverable lists, and research
  11. Manage mechanical layout budget, schedule, and work power loading
  12. Support in the development of project design basis
  13. Support the development of project schedules, budgets, and progress metrics
  14. Communicate with vendors, carry out vendor reviews and use vendor data efficiently in designs
  15. Participate in site inspections, field reviews, quality assessments and oversee testing
  16. Assist in interpreting the plant PFDs, P&IDs, and plant battery limit constraints
  17. Perform clash detection
  18. Prepare and develop proposals
  19. Mentor and train junior designers and engineers
  20. Be able to work on multiple projects concurrently
  21. Work with 3D point cloud scan data

Overview of certifications and job requirements
  1. 10+ years relevant experience in mechanical layout and design drafting of mineral processing plants in a multidisciplinary engineering design environment
  2. Mechanical Engineering Technologist/Technician diploma or equivalent.
  3. Gold, silver, copper, zinc, and lead commodities experience
  4. Experience in mechanical engineering in mine process plants including knowledge of mechanical systems, materials, and industry standards
  5. Knowledge of mechanical codes, building codes and standards
  6. Experience in mechanical design of chutes and plate work
  7. Experience within a large project, multidisciplinary environment (EPCM an asset)
  8. Experience with greenfield and brownfield projects
  9. Knowledge of 3D CAD tools such as: SP3D, Solidworks, CADworx and AutoCAD.
  10. Knowledge of 3D point clouds considered an asset
  11. Ability to travel and perform site work, where required
  12. Initiative to identify tasks that need completion and accept the responsibility of seeing those assignments through to the final stage
  13. Experience with mechanical design and layout in hydropower, pulp and paper and clean energy would be considered an asset
  14. Thorough understanding of mechanical engineering concepts and ability to communicate ideas to others
  15. Bilingual (English and French) is not necessary but would be advantageous for this position.
