We are seeking dedicated and passionate educators to join our team as an Outdoor Nature School Educator. As Educator, you will be responsible for providing engaging and educational outdoor experiences for preschool-aged children using our provided material kits and activity schedule. This position requires a minimum of 2 years of experience working with children, preferably in a group childcare, camp, or preschool setting - ideally in an outdoors environment. Applicants should be able to demonstrate a strong ability to keep young children engaged in a fully outdoor setting, which involves remaining active, engaged, and highly alert with the group at all times. Being skilled at setting effective age-appropriate boundaries, using play-based redirection strategies, and applying proactive classroom management skills for an outdoor setting is essential. An ideal candidate should have a deep appreciation for nature-based learning, be comfortable working in all kinds of weather, and possess strong leadership, preschool teaching, and organizational skills. This is a part-time position offering 17.5 hours per week, from 8:45 am to 12:15 pm, Monday to Friday, with a competitive starting hourly rate of $25-$27 depending on experience, with unique opportunities to grow within the company.


Responsibilities:

  1. Facilitate outdoor nature-based activities and lessons that align with the nature school curriculum using the provided material kits, fostering children's curiosity, creativity, and connection with the natural world.
  2. Lead and supervise a small group of preschool-aged children (3-5 year olds) during our fully-outdoor programming, proactively ensuring their safety and well-being at all times.
  3. Implement age-appropriate lesson plans, incorporating nature exploration, sensory experiences, storytelling, arts and crafts, and physical activities.
  4. Create a positive and inclusive learning environment, promoting social-emotional development, teamwork, and respect for nature and one another.
  5. Encourage children to develop independence, problem-solving skills, and a love for nature through hands-on experiences and guided exploration.
  6. Foster positive and professional relationships with parents/guardians, providing regular updates on their child's progress, activities, and areas of interest.
  7. Collaborate with other staff members to maintain effective communication and cohesive planning.
  8. Ensure the safety and well-being of all children using effective risk management and redirection strategies, as well as following established protocols, including emergency procedures and child protection policies.
  9. Dedicated and updated on best practices in early childhood education and nature-based learning.
  10. Remain reliable and communicative.


Qualifications

1. Minimum of 2 years of experience working with children in a group childcare or preschool setting, ideally in an outdoors environment.

2. Passion for outdoor education and supporting the enrichment of children's early development.

3. Prepared to work in various weather conditions, including rain, wind, and cold temperatures.

4. Excellent leadership skills, with the ability to engage and inspire children in outdoor learning experiences.

5. Strong organizational and time management skills, ensuring smooth transitions and efficient use of outdoor time.

6. Knowledge of early childhood development and facilitating developmentally-appropriate activities.

7. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with children, parents, and colleagues.

8. Current First Aid and CPR certification (or willingness to obtain certification).

10. Must pass a criminal background check and provide references from previous childcare-related positions.
