GENERAL DESCRIPTION: The YouthWorks Opportunities (YWO) project is designed to help young people between the ages of 15 and 30 who face significant barriers and are distant from the labour market. It provides access to employment skills development, along with education/training and work experience. The goal is to achieve long-term employment, meaningful careers and success in their future working lives. YouthWorks Opportunities is a Youth Employment and Skills Strategy (YESS) funded project for youth who face multiple barriers to finding and keeping employment. The incumbent will support approximately 92 youth over the course of the agreement, 23 youth annually. They will design and facilitate pre-employment workshops and training, and work with participants to complete a placement with an employer partner. The Team Lead will ensure the effective delivery of all aspects of planning, development, delivery, and evaluation of the program which include assessment, intake, pre-employment training, job placement and coaching, referrals to community resources, and facilitating individual supports and employer incentive payments. This position works out of both TNG Employment Services sites: 3036 Danforth Ave and 1415 Bathurst St.


MAJOR DUTIES:

  • Oversee the delivery of the YouthWorks Opportunities Project to the target groups, ensuring that intake, pre-employment training, job placement, and outcome targets and are met and a high quality of service is provided to all youth participants and employer partners
  • Develop and implement marketing and outreach strategies to encourage target population and employer partner engagement
  • Liaise with community professionals to increase participant and employer engagement
  • Establish relationships with community and social service organizations to provide information and referrals, to increase understanding of community needs, and to awareness of the needs of youth.
  • Make appropriate referrals for additional support including to community agencies and in-house Counsellor/Advocate
  • Work with participants to develop Action Plans; assisting them to establish realistic career goals, to secure employment and/or determine training options
  • Participate in service planning for the agency in relation to other departments, community and individual needs
  • Ensure that the teams adhere to the YESS/ Service Canada and TNG’s documentation guidelines and the highest standard of data quality is met in our internal database and GCOS
  • In consultation with the Manager of Youth Employment, identify training needs and arrange for professional development activities


REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS

  • Post Secondary diploma in a relevant discipline, preferably Career Counselling, Social Work, or Human Resources and two years of team lead/program coordination experience and leading an employment service team or combined equivalent of education and experience
  • Five years’ experience in employment advising, job coaching, or job developing, or combined equivalent of education and experience
  • Excellent leadership skills and strong ability to lead in a team using a solution-focused approach to challenges
  • Experience supporting youth in achieving their employment goals and coaching youth who are distant from the labour market
  • Strong computer skills (Microsoft Office Suite, Salesforce, search engines, online communication methods)
  • Skilled in developing audience-geared employment related, life skills and career advancement curriculum coupled with strong facilitation skills
  • Ability to travel in and around GTA by transit
  • Multicultural sensitivity and an ability to work in a multicultural/multiracial organization
