Program Manager

MetOcean Telematics, a leading global provider of marine and defence electronics, is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Program Manager to join our dynamic team in Dartmouth, NS, Canada. This role is pivotal in ensuring the delivery and performance of our cutting-edge telematics products.

About the Role : Reporting to the VP Operations, the Program Manager will be responsible for managing technical engineering development and support projects. The Program Manager must understand and participate in the engineering design processes and be able to lead a cross-functional technical team. They should understand system engineering concepts and be able to guide the team through all milestones, including those related to transitioning products to production. The candidate will be responsible for contractor management, and will support the team through proposal, estimating, contract negotiations and execution.

The Program Manager will manage project performance including execution, risk management, schedules, and all other commitments. They will interact heavily with internal stakeholders, across a broad spectrum of issues, and must inspire confidence within this community that the team/solution/approach is effective. The Program Manager will advise management on project status through briefing packages that include details on schedule, cost, and technical progress. Additionally, they must ensure phased gate reviews and project plans accurately reflect the project's health.

The Program Manager must have excellent communication skills, proactively engaging with the team and management to achieve success. This will include working with department managers to ensure team members have the correct technical skills to develop the product. They will also be responsible for influencing requirements for follow-on programs and to expand the application of effective requirements management across development programs.

Responsibilities

Program/Project Management:

  1. Define program scope, objectives, and deliverables in collaboration with stakeholders.
  2. Develop comprehensive plans, including timelines, resource allocation, and risk management strategies.
  3. Establish program milestones and monitor progress against them, identifying, mitigating, and communicating risks along the way.
  4. Lead cross-functional project teams through the full project lifecycle, from initiation to closure.
  5. Coordination and management of project schedules, budgets, and resources.
  6. Act as the primary point of contact for program-related matters with internal and external stakeholders and manage stakeholder expectations and ensure alignment with program goals.
  7. Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize tasks in a changing environment.

Communication:

  1. Facilitate effective communication and collaboration among engineering teams and other stakeholders.
  2. Provide guidance and support to project managers and team members.
  3. Foster a culture of accountability and innovation.
  4. Present program status, progress, and issues to senior management in a timely manner.
  5. Manage stakeholder expectations and ensure alignment with program goals.

Quality Assurance:

  1. Ensure engineering solutions meet quality standards and project requirements.
  2. Implement and monitor processes for quality control and continuous improvement.
  3. Conduct program reviews and post-project evaluations to identify lessons learned.
  4. Ensure compliance with industry standards, regulations, and company policies.

Education and Experience

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Project Management, or a related field.
  2. Minimum of 5 years of experience in program or project management within an engineering environment.
  3. Proven track record of managing complex development programs and delivering results.
  4. PMP certification an asset.
