A Brief Job Description:

VACANCY: At present there is one (1) vacancy for this position in the Seneca County Mental Health Department.
RESIDENCY: Seneca County’s residency requirement of residency in Seneca County or contiguous county for 30 days has been waived for this position. Candidates must be legal residents of New York State at time of application.
Preference in appointment may be given to successful candidates who have been legal residents of the municipality in which appointment is to be made for at least one month prior to the date of application and are residents of such municipality at the time of appointment.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES (Illustrative Only):

  1. Plans, develops, implements, and evaluates a program providing specialized mental health treatment services
  2. May perform various phases of program administration including program budgeting, planning, reporting, responding to Requests for Proposals, and keeping abreast of current Federal and state rules and regulations;
  3. Compiles case records and maintains statistical records on case load and work activities;
  4. Prepares and maintains a variety of reports: assessments; progress notes; treatment plans and summaries; and discharge plans;

When assigned to Seneca County Community Counseling Center:

  1. Provides intensive individual and group therapy to individuals, including children and families, with emotional, social, and related problems;
  2. Serves as a member of the clinic team, providing mental health, social work, or psychological expertise, to assist in assessing and diagnosing patients and planning for their treatment;
  3. Works independently in making complete intake studies of new or readmitted patients;
  4. Provides consultation services for other community agencies to assist them in understanding and working with individual cases;
  5. Attends and participates in in-service training programs for clinic staff and staff members of cooperating agencies;
  6. Takes part in speaking engagements, panel discussions, and community meetings concerned with community mental health programs;
  7. Refers patients to community agencies, which can provide necessary services;
  8. Works directly with Program Director of Clinical Services to administer, develop policies and procedures as well as supervise staff providing clinical services to children and families with a particular focus on county school-based services.;
  9. Serves as a member of the “On Call” team;
  10. Participates as a member of the emergency crisis intervention team on call after normal office/ business hours;
  11. May transport clients.

When Assigned to Seneca County Jail:

  1. Conducts inmate intakes and assessments (i.e. psychosocial, mental health, lethality) at the request of inmates and/or jail staff, and/or as per agency and state regulations;
  2. Develops treatment plans in consultation with Mental Health Department staff, Sheriff’s Department Corrections and Medical Staff and other agencies (as appropriate and allowed), to address an inmate’s psychosocial needs;
  3. Reviews cases and recommends treatment plans for lower-level Jail Mental Health Masters’ level clinicians;
  4. Provides ongoing individual, and group and psychotherapy under clinical supervision;
  5. Provides crisis intervention services to inmates;
  6. Gathers information regarding inmates by contacting (when allowed and appropriate) family members, concerned others, school personnel, other behavioral health and healthcare providers and any others familiar with the inmate;
  7. Provides service coordination for other services inmates may need (i.e. alcohol/drug evaluation and treatment, GED etc.) while incarcerated;
  8. Makes community service referrals on behalf of inmates to facilitate transitions back into the community and/or to other levels of care;
  9. Monitors and reviews treatment plans with inmates by maintaining ongoing contact with inmates receiving service and other service providers and routinely updates supervisors of progress;
  10. Attends staff meetings of Jail and Mental Health Department staff as needed, training sessions, and workshops on social work issues;

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Possession of a Master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling or other related degree; AND
Possession of a Limited Use Permit (MHC-P) or Licensed as a Mental Health Counselor (LMHC), Licensed as a Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), Licensed as a Creative Arts Therapist (LCAT), Licensed as a Master Social Worker (LMSW), Licensed as a Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) issued by the New York State Department of Education at the time of examination;
