POSITION SUMMARY

The Senior Researcher is a provincial resource for the provision of methodological consultation in research, outcome measurement, study design and qualitative and quantitative analyses to the Knowledge Institute on Child and Youth Mental Health and Addictions (the Knowledge Institute) and its partners, in order to contribute to an evidence-informed system of mental health and addictions care for Ontario’s children, youth and families. The Senior Researcher will work with key partners, including academic and applied researchers, lead agencies and their service area partners to develop and implement the Knowledge Institute’s strategic plan in collaboration with the leadership team. The Senior Researcher will facilitate connections between the producers and users of child and youth mental health and addictions research. The Senior Researcher will contribute to the conceptualization and implementation of various research initiatives and will lend their expertise to the creation of knowledge products to mobilize the latest evidence on topics of relevance to Ontario’s child and youth mental health and addictions sector.

Reporting to the Director, Research and Knowledge Mobilization, the Senior Researcher will coordinate their work with other Knowledge Institute staff and members of the leadership team.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Provide expert guidance and advice to contribute to an evidence-informed child and youth mental health and addictions system:

  • Liaise with key partners, including academics and applied researchers, Ministry partners, lead agencies and service area partners to develop and implement the Knowledge Institute’s strategic plan
  • Provide methodological consultation in research, outcome measurement, study design and quantitative and qualitative analyses to relevant partners
  • Lead the development of knowledge products on key topics relevant to Ontario’s child and youth mental health and addictions sector
  • Travel across the province of Ontario as needed or required

Lead the development of Knowledge Institute research activities, tools and resources:

  • Provide direction and coaching to research staff in the development of Knowledge Institute research initiatives, resources and tools
  • Report to the Knowledge Institute’s senior leadership team and communications team on progress and deliverables

Manage and coach research staff:

  • Recruit and retain up to three research staff
  • Provide ongoing coaching and mentoring to staff, and conduct annual performance appraisals to ensure learning objectives are being achieved

Provide education and training to the Knowledge Institute’s team:

  • Work with Knowledge Institute managers and directors to enhance staff knowledge and skills in research, writing and the mobilization of Knowledge Institute’s knowledge products
  • Work closely with the Knowledge Institute’s leadership team and key staff on the development of strategic and operational plans

Administrative/miscellaneous:

  • Maintain documentation of activities per Knowledge Institute requirements
  • Participate in the development, implementation and evaluation of Knowledge Institute programs and initiatives to respond to emerging needs of the sector and to strengthen or enhance Knowledge Institute programs
  • Help to profile the work of the Knowledge Institute to external and internal partners
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by supervisor

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Criminal Record Check (Essential)
  • Doctoral degree in psychology, social work, education, health or business administration or related fields (Essential)
  • Minimum five years of relevant experience, including child and youth mental health/addictions (Essential)
  • Advanced knowledge quantitative and qualitative research design and related methodologies (Essential)
  • Strong knowledge of complexity, systems thinking and collective impact (Essential)
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate and consult effectively with demonstrated experience working with diverse partners at direct service, senior manager, community and provincial levels (Essential)
  • Demonstrated skills in group facilitation and adult education (Essential)
  • Strong interpersonal skills to build and maintain relationships with a broad range of internal and external partners, including tact and adaptability (Essential)
  • Experience working with the Ministry of Health or related Ministries; working knowledge of the child and youth mental health and addictions system (Preferred)
  • Independent worker and self-directed learner (Essential)
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills (Essential)
  • Strong project management skills with demonstrated ability to meet timelines and deliverables, and ability to manage competing priorities (Essential)
  • Strong skills in coaching and mentoring early career staff members (Essential)
  • Valid Ontario driver’s license (Essential)
  • Bilingualism (Preferred)
