Zurich Canada is currently looking for an AVP Reserving Actuary within its Finance Actuarial team.

Reporting to the Chief Actuary, you will manage a team of actuaries to lead reserving studies, perform monthly close, establish partnerships with business leadership on reserving matters, including insights into risks, underlying performance, and implications for the business.

What you will do
  • Review, lead, and coordinate reserving analyses, portfolio profitability management, and communicate results to market-facing business leaders in complex environments and lines of business.
  • Manage a team of 3-4 reserving actuaries.
  • Interface with regulators, auditors, and Peer Reviewers.
  • Support the Quarterly Reserve Committee.
  • Lead the production of the Appointed Actuary’s Report.
  • Perform the monthly close process and communicate results to Finance and Underwriting teams.
  • Conduct financial condition analysis, support ORSA, and participate in Internal Target Setting.
  • Provide consultation and technical expertise on actuarial models and risk issues.
  • Remain current with regulatory/industry practices and apply this knowledge in reserving.
Job Qualifications

What you bring to the table:

Required:

  • Bachelor's Degree OR Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice, including Associates Degree.
  • 8 or more years of experience in the Actuarial area plus FCAS or equivalent international certification OR 13 or more years of experience in the Actuarial area plus ACAS or equivalent international certification.

Preferred:

  • Experience in multiple functional areas (pricing, reserving, capital management) and knowledge/skills reflective of a senior practitioner.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
