We have an exciting opportunity in our program for a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) within the Alberta Kidney Care (AKC). As a member of the multidisciplinary team, the LPN is responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of patient care. Decisions are made in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team. The LPN provides patient and family centered care to acute and chronic renal failure patient populations. The LPN will practice within the guidelines and philosophy of the AKC. You will be encouraged and be expected to work at your full scope of practice and provide a variety of nursing duties in accordance with current policies and nursing care standards. This is a Regularized Relief Designated Float position serving Alberta Kidney Care sites. Staff have a regular rotational schedule and expected to float to all AKC-N sites based on needs. This position will cover the RAH, EGH, GNH, WEKC, 5B1 and Wetaskiwin dialysis unit. If there is no previous dialysis experience, the candidate must be willing to attend 4 weeks of full time classroom training followed by a week of Day shifts and then a week of Evening buddy shifts. The candidate must be successful in both the classroom training and buddy shifts to continue in the position.

As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you are part of an interprofessional health care team utilizing nursing processes, critical thinking, problem solving and decision making skills. You will be guided by your education, experience, demonstrated skill level and AHS policies and procedures. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Completion of an accredited Licensed Practical Nurse education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

Demonstrate effective time management and organizational skills. Demonstrated critical thinking, problem solving, and decision making abilities required. Successful completion of a recognized Practical Nursing educational program (diploma or certificate in practical nursing). Must have Physical Assessment, IV Therapy and Medication Administration course. Successful candidate must be able to lift 40lbs (18kg). Basic computer skills required. The AKC program requires candidates to complete/pass Hemodialysis Training. Candidates with previous experience will be required to complete Hemodialysis Training as per Manager/Educators discretion.

Minimum 1-2 years recent Adult Acute Care experience. Recent acute and chronic hemodialysis and/or nephrology nursing experience.
