Full-time remote work will not be an option and successful candidates should be ready to relocate to the National Capital Region.

Intent of the process

A pool of candidates will be established and will be used to staff positions within the Canadian Firearms Program on an indeterminate or specified period (including term, acting, or assignment) basis, with various linguistic profiles (English Essential and Bilingual Imperative BBB/BBB) and various RCMP security clearances.

Should a Civilian Member (CM) be found qualified and selected for appointment, the appointment will not result in a change of status to the Public Service (PS) category for the CM.

EDUCATION
A secondary school diploma or employer approved alternatives.

EXPERIENCE
Recent* and extensive** experience with a variety of firearms such as: rifles, pistols, revolvers, shotguns, military & police automatic firearms and commercial sporting firearms.
Experience with ammunition or ammunition reloading procedures.
Experience researching and providing firearm technical information.

*Recent experience is acquired within approximately the past 5 years.
**Extensive experience is understood to mean the depth and breadth of the experience normally associated with having performed a broad range of various, complex related activities

If you possess any of the following, your application must also clearly explain how you meet it (other qualifications)

Experience using the Firearms Reference Table (FRT).
Experience using standard operating polices and quality assurance practices.

The following will be applied / assessed at a later date (essential for the job)

OCCUPATIONAL CERTIFICATION
Successful completion of the Canadian Firearms Safety Course and the Canadian Restricted Firearms Safety Course

NOTE: Candidates do not need to have completed these courses to apply. They must, however, have successfully completed them prior to an offer of employment being made.

KNOWLEDGE
Knowledge of firearms and ammunition (may include but not limited to: firearm operating principles, firearm design principles, firearm operating cycles, the meaning/significance of firearm markings/proofs marks, firearm terminology, firearm component names, ammunition terminology and ammunition reloading procedures).
Knowledge of Part III of the Criminal Code.
Knowledge of methods of researching firearm technical information.

ABILITIES
Ability to communicate effectively orally.
Ability to communicate effectively in writing.
Ability to prioritize workload.

Conditions of employment

Reliability Status security clearance - All applicants for positions within the Royal Canadian Mounted Police will be subject to a thorough security clearance process which includes an interview wherein questions may include (but not limited to), reference checks, previous employment, on-line activities, credit checks, alcohol and/or drug use.

Must handle firearms as required.

Preference

Preference will be given to veterans first and then to Canadian citizens and permanent residents, with the exception of a job located in Nunavut, where Nunavut Inuit will be appointed first.
