A Snapshot of Your Day

We are seeking a Project Engineer, Substations. The Siemens Energy Grid Solutions Substation Design Engineering department comprises of professionals with experience in Primary, Secondary and Civil Engineering for detailed Engineering, Procurement and Construction Projects for Substations (Air Insulated Substations and Gas Insulated Switchgear substations), Data Centers and electrification projects. As part of the engineering team, you will work collaboratively throughout the life-cycle of a project to prepare and review detailed engineering documentation for bidding, procurement, design, construction and commissioning.

Preferred work location: Oakville, Ontario, CA.

How You’ll Make an Impact
  1. Lead a multidiscipline project team of engineers in the development of physical, protection, and civil engineering packages for substation EPC projects.
  2. Ensure the project engineering deliverables meet the schedule and scope requirements of the contract and communicate with the project manager any risks in the engineering design project.
  3. Capacity to serve as the customer’s point of contact to manage all technical topics of the EPC substation project, including technical construction and procurement topics.
  4. Review customer request for proposal documentation and identify any necessary exceptions, deviations, or clarifications.
  5. Development of scope of work and Work Break-down Structure (WBS) documents and high-level engineering execution plans for Siemens Energy engineering.
  6. Managing interfaces with multiple internal and external stakeholders, such as customers, Siemens Energy engineering, engineering contractors, suppliers, and site contractor(s).
  7. Monitor/report project engineering progress and implement mitigation and corrective actions in coordination with project management; help identify and analyze project risks, and help propose remedial actions.
  8. Perform technical due diligence and checking on supplier quotes for equipment and engineering services.
  9. Attend site visits as required to customer project locations during Request for Proposal phase to gather information, and during project phase to support construction and commissioning.
What You Bring
  1. Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering degree or higher.
  2. 5 or more years of experience working on substation projects. *Candidates with more experience can be considered for a higher level or vice-versa.
  3. Licensed Professional Engineer is preferred.
  4. Prior experience in Engineering Design for utility power projects is desirable.
  5. Experience with AutoCAD.
  6. Strong verbal and written skills in English.
  7. Knowledge of ANSI and IEC standards.
