POSITION SUMMARY

The Transport team has the specialized expertise and equipment to care for patients as they are transported to the hospital by ambulance, plane, or rotor. The Transport team provides 24/7 service to hospitals in Eastern Ontario, portions of Southern and Northern Ontario as well as Western Quebec. Critical care is initiated by the transport team on arrival at the referring hospital and continued throughout the transport. Members of this team have a shared responsibility in a two-member team for the seamless transfer of Neonatal and Pediatric patients from rural and regional hospitals, tertiary care institutions and remote locations. The Critical Care Transport Respiratory Therapist is recognized as an expert clinician with demonstrated knowledge, skills, critical thinking, teamwork, and problem-solving skills. Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to: advanced patient assessment, stabilization and interventions working under medical directives approved by the Transport Medical Director and functioning as an ambassador of CHEO.


The role of the Intern is to consolidate the knowledge and skills required of the Transport Associate and the Transport Clinician, which prepares them for roles on the transport team.


MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Implement critical transport care
  • Successfully complete the Neonatal and Pediatric Transport Team competency requirements
  • Utilize clinical practice guidelines, clinical pathways, medical directives, hospital policies and procedures to promote and implement evidence-based practice
  • Ensure safe and effective application of precise technological equipment to meet determined patient care goals
  • Anticipate and prepare for emergencies
  • Provide patient and family support and education
  • Contribute to the orientation and education of various members of the interdisciplinary team as appropriate
  • Participate in quality assurance, research activities and workload measurement as appropriate
  • Demonstrate a commitment to professional transport practice


QUALIFICATIONS

  • Member of the College of Respiratory Therapy (General Certificate) (Essential)
  • Degree in Health Sciences or related field (Preferred)
  • Minimum of 5 years of Critical Care Experience or other appropriate combinations of education and experience, along with the demonstrated knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the duties of the position, may be considered in lieu of stated education and experience (Essential)
  • Current BCLS, NRP/PALS or successfully completed within 1 year (Essential)
  • Successful completion of approved courses in Antenatal and/or Intrapartum care (Preferred)
  • Successful completion of approved courses in TNCC (Preferred)
  • Successful completion of approved courses in ENPC (Preferred)

RÉSUMÉ DES FONCTIONS

L’équipe de transport possède l’expertise et l’équipement spécialisés pour offrir des soins aux patients pendant leur transport à l’hôpital par ambulance, par avion ou par aéronef à hélices. L’équipe de transport offre des services 24 heures par jour, sept jours par semaine aux hôpitaux de l’Est de l’Ontario, de parties du sud et du nord de l’Ontario et de l’ouest du Québec. Les soins intensifs sont administrés par l’équipe de transport à l’arrivée à l’hôpital d’origine et se poursuivent tout au long du transport. Les membres de cette équipe partagent les responsabilités d’une équipe de deux membres chargée du transfert sans problèmes de patients néonataux et pédiatriques à partir d’hôpitaux ruraux et régionaux, d’établissements de soins tertiaires et de régions éloignées. Le ou la thérapeute respiratoire responsable du transport de patients en soins intensifs est reconnue comme étant experte en soins cliniques ayant des connaissances et des compétences manifestes, une pensée critique, un esprit d’équipe et des capacités de résolution de problèmes. Les principales responsabilités incluent, sans toutefois s’y limiter : mener une évaluation avancée des patients, intervenir et les stabiliser, exécuter les directives médicales approuvées par le directeur du transport médical et agir à titre d’ambassadeur de CHEO.

Le rôle du ou de la titulaire intérimaire est de consolider les connaissances et les compétences du responsable du transport et du clinicien ou de la clinicienne de transport, ce qui les prépare pour leur rôle dans l’équipe de transport.


PRINCIPALES RESPONSABILITÉS

  • Organiser le transport en soins intensifs;
  • Réussir à acquérir les compétences de l’équipe de transport des soins néonatals et pédiatriques;
  • Suivre les lignes directrices sur les pratiques cliniques, les cheminements cliniques, les directives médicales, les politiques et procédures de l’Hôpital pour promouvoir et établir des pratiques fondées sur des données probantes;
  • Veiller à l’application sécuritaire et efficace des appareils de précision technologique pour atteindre les objectifs déterminés des soins aux patients;
  • Anticiper les urgences et s’y préparer;
  • Soutenir et informer les patients et leurs familles;
  • Contribuer à l’orientation et à l’éducation de divers membres de l’équipe interdisciplinaire selon les besoins;
  • Participer à des activités d’assurance de la qualité, de recherche et de mesure de la charge de travail selon les besoins;
  • Faire preuve d’engagement envers les pratiques professionnelles du transport.


QUALIFICATIONS

  • Adhésion à l’Ordre des thérapeutes respiratoires (certificat général) (Essentiel)
  • Diplôme en sciences de la santé ou un domaine connexe (Préférable)
  • Expérience d’au moins 5 ans en soins intensifs, ou l’on pourra examiner la possibilité d’accepter un agencement d’expérience et d’études accompagné de connaissances, de compétences et d’aptitudes manifestes à accomplir les fonctions du poste au lieu du diplôme requis (Essentiel)
  • Certificats en BCLS, NRP/PALS ou acquisition des certificats d’ici un an (Essentiel)
